With each step Iris took, she could feel her heart beat quicker in her chest. She couldn't come up with the courage to lift her gaze from her feet. A million different questions raced into her mind; What would she say? What would he think? What would she do?
She eventually broke from her daze after smashing into another person and stumbling to the ground.
"I am so sorry" Iris said, raising to her feet. She looked up to face the person she had bumped into. Her eyes met the blue-green ones of Barry Allen.
"No, sorry, its my fault" he replied gathering up the books he was reading.
Iris couldn't believe it. Of course she would embarrass herself. Once he had collected his books, he stood up.
For a few minutes they stood, awkwardly in a silence. Iris wanted to say something, to break the awkwardness, but she couldn't think of anything. Her mind was blank.

"I think we might have Math together" Iris said, saying the first sentence that came to mind. "I'm Iris... West" she extended her arm. "Barry Allen" he shook her hand. "Well, I should get going" Barry said pointing to the door. Iris nodded. "See you in class".
When Barry had left the library, Iris turned around and walked back to the table. Cara looked up from her textbook and asked "What are you smiling at?"
"Nothing" Iris replied sitting down opposite her friend. She reached for her textbook and opened it, studying the words on the page. Her mind raced. She could barely process the information she was reading.
After over an hour of studying, the library was about to close and Iris and Cara packed up their books and exited the building.

"I'll see you tomorrow" Cara said hugging Iris and then walking away.

As she walked home, Iris was practically skipping. Jumping over the cracks in the footpath and dodging all the weeds and small bushes that grew in between the bricks.
A smile grew on her face.
She hoped tomorrow would be a good day.
