As he approaches I smile back, outstretching my arms and handing him the ball.
"Thank you" he chuckles, taking the ball. "Cruz can be a bit of a clutz... sorry"
I assume Cruz is the youngest, the boy who had kicked the ball
"No problem, and it's fine" I beam
"I'm Romeo..." he begins, placing the ball in one hand and stretching the other out to me "...it's nice to meet you" he finishes as I shake his hand.
"The same goes to you, I'm Caidence" I let go of his hand and sit down, assuming our little conversation was over. My assumptions were proved wrong when he crouched, his knees bending with ease.
"You're uh... you're really pretty" he mumbles, almost embarrassingly. I feel the blood rush to my cheeks, colour tinting my face.
"Thank you" I play with the swaying bits of grass beside my thighs. I hear his brothers call out to him and beckon him over. He nods at them once, raising one finger to indicate he needed a minute.
I furrow my eyebrows, unsure as to what his intentions are.
"Look, I know you've probably been hated on for your... condition" he pauses, looking for the right word
"But I want you to know that... You're too beautiful to be one colour, that's why God made you both"
Now, it's his turn to blush
"How old are you?" I ask, amazed by his words
"I'm twelve" he grins at me, obviously sure that his words were far more mature than he was. My jaw drops a little and I stare at him, dumbfounded.
"Well, until next time, Caidence" he smirks, straightening up and jogging back to his brothers, who look over to me with interest.
If only I had known how much those thirteen words were to impact the next few days.
