The cup of steaming liquid balances in my right hand while the plate holding the sandwich wobbles on my left. I try to walk as carefully as possible in my 5 foot heels and floor length maxi.
With a mind of its own, my ankle tips to the right, catching my dress in the process. The tea is thrown out of the Styrofoam cup while the sandwich takes itself apart as it flies towards the unsuspecting lady in front of me.
As I try to regain balance of my giraffe legs, I hear a ripping sound coming from towards my right. By this time the now furious lady has turned around with a scowl on her red face.
Ignoring the lecture I am about to be given, I look down only to see a small but noticeable tear in the fabric, exposing a tiny bit of my pale leg. Looking up, I see the woman turning a crimson colour as she continues scolding me for 'staining her $300 designer silk dress and embarrassing her during such an event'.
Adding to the embarrassment, I see my steaming mother marching towards us with a stern and ashamed expression. I cringe as I mentally prepare for the calm anger I know will come.
As my mother profusely apologises for my clumsiness and sense of direction, or lack thereof, both women glare at me as if I have just dumped a gallon of slime on the pair of them, instead of merely accidentally slipping and spreading mayonnaise on a lady as one would spread Nutella on a piece of bread.
With a final look of disgust from both parties, I'm left to hang my head in shame as I follow my mother back to our designated seats. Let's just say for the rest of the night I stayed in my seat while silently playing games on my phone.
