Short Story-Peter Pan

"Naomi?" He whispered in a strained voice.

"Yeah?" I sniffled.

"Will you tell me a joke?"

I stared at him in confusion as another tear left my red, swollen eyes. "What do mean? Why?"

"Tell me a joke. I want to be happy one more time." He explained.

I couldn't stop the tears from blurring my eyes. "Okay." I nodded, racking my brain for a decent joke," Why is Peterpan always flying?"

"Why?" He rasped, becoming quieter by the second.

"Because he Neverlands." My voice cracked as I answered through unsteady breaths.

His chest became still and his eyes halted before I finished the joke, leaving me to try choke back the violent sobs on the floor.
