Emily steps forward leading me as she gives me a description of the school and all the classes she's ever had here.

She stops next to a cart where they're selling snacks. "Aye. I'm kind of hungry do want to wait in line with me?"

"I guess, I mean I have nowhere else to go."

~

We wait for about twenty minutes before I break the silence, "So there's this thing I signed up for at this coffee shop down in Norfolk and since you're the only person who has talked to me since I came here would you like to come?"

"Yeah, I'd love to. I was looking for something to do after school today besides homework, just give me your wrist."

I lift my wrist and look at it, "What?"

"Here." She grabs my hand after she pulls out a pen from her back pocket. "I'm going to give you my number."

My face is red and I have goosebumps.

She's touching my hand.

I turn my head a little hoping she doesn't notice.

When she finishes, she caps her pen and pushes it back in her pocket then she smiles, "There you go! You can text me the directions after school."

~

We get to the front of the line and she hands the person fifty cents as she grabs a bag of chips.

We step away from the cart.

"Shit!"

"What?"

She answers, "I forgot I brought an orange, do you want my chips."

"But you bought them with your money."

"Yeah it's okay it was only fifty cents."

"Ha, okay. Then I guess I could take the chips off your hands."
She hands the chips to me and pulls out her orange.

The bell rings.

"Let me see your schedule."

I shove it over to her and she scans through it.

"Okay, follow me. I guess we don't have the next few classes together so if you need to find me at lunch I'll be by the gates near the front of the school."
She drops me off to my period then speeds back out to find her's.
