I sit with her face on my shoulder and my arms blanketed around her.

She tries to get her words out, "You know how I told you that I was late because my mom had a meeting?"

"Yeah?"

"I lied."

"Huh?"

"I was talking with my boyfriend."

My heart drops, "What did you talk about?" -as if I cared.

"He said he's 'lost feelings' ..bull crap. Shit, I knew he was cheating." She rubs her nose, "Oh god. I missed your performance, damn it, all this stupid shit and 'high school - boyfriend' crap."

"No. It's okay, you had to deal with things. It happens. 'stupid shit and high school - boyfriend crap.'"

I hear her giggle, the hug gets tighter, "Thanks Jeffrey."

"Ha, for what?"

"For making me feel a little better."

"'A little?' I can do better than that." She laughs more. "There we go."

We release from the hug but, we stay in a close huddle of just us two. Suddenly, I lose control and I'm unaware of what's about to happen.

I can feel my face press against her's.
