"Selena!" I heard a voice from behind me shout as I walked down the hallway, ready to leave. Turning around, I furrowed my eyebrows as I saw who was walking towards me. "Hey," Jared said smiling at me once he caught up to me. I didn't say anything, just stared as I waited for him to say something. And as I did, it became extremely awkward, and I shifted my feet.

What was I supposed to say? We've never spoken to each other. Besides the occasional times in class when we'd pass up papers or something, but other than that, we just didn't acknowledge each other. And now, I'm apparently the only one people seem to want to speak to. As if all their other friends disappeared, and it's getting annoying, fast.

"So..?" I trailed off, wanting to just go home. I was getting more exhausted by the second, and he wasn't making it any better by just standing there, staring at me.

"Oh, sorry." He shook his head, smiling down at me. "Yeah, I'm..sorry." He paused, looking down at me still as a faint red appeared on his cheeks. "I..um, I'm having a small party at my house next Friday and I want you to come, since it's kinda..uh, for you."

"Thanks," I said slowly as he handed me the small envelope containing the information, I guess. "But I don't think I'll go." I gave him a small smile and began walking towards the door.

"Wait! Please?" He quickly said, grabbing my arm, stopping me. Looking down at his hand that was holding onto my arm, I bit the inside of my cheek.

"I really can't. I have...family stuff going on." I lied and looked at him for a second before looking back down.

"Selena, it's going to be fun and I really want you there, considering you're the person it's for." He tried to convince me and I shook my head. "Don't lie to get out of something, that's shady." Jared flashed me a smile, to show that he wasn't meaning it offensively.

"Okay, I guess." I nodded at him and slipped the envelope in the side pocket of my bag.

"Great! See you later!" He patted my shoulder and pulled out his phone, walking towards the door I've been trying to get out of.

---

I remember going camping one night, after Alex had asked me repeatedly. I remember saying no, that I had too much school work to do, but she kept asking. Over and over again. I knew I ended up saying yes, not knowing that it was going to turn out the way it did.

From a mile away, I could hear the music blasting from some college kids speaker and people trying to song along. I remember pulling up and seeing girls half naked, dancing on guys they didn't even know. And that's when I wanted to leave, walk home if I had to. But no matter how much I complained and yelled at Alex, she wasn't going to let me go.

I remember sitting there in a chair with my legs pulled up to my chest as the bugs continued to bite me continuously. I was staring at the fire that was dying, no longer illuminating light onto my face, when and guy, obviously drunk came up to me and grabbed my hair, running his fingers through it. I hated Alex at that point. All I wanted to do was go home, curl up in my bed and fall asleep. I didn't answer the guy when he kept whispering nasty things in my ear, the smell of alcohol drowning me. Instead, I just sat there, flinching away every few seconds. Then, he got the idea to feel in between my legs when I sat up, rubbing the exposed skin on my thighs. I still hadn't said a word to him. So when he didn't stop, I slapped his hand away and stood up, kicking the chair at him, and running off.

But little did I know where that was going to lead me.

"Oh, Shit," I mumbled as my foot caught on something, causing me to fall forward. Rolling over, I groaned and kicked my mom's purse off of my foot. "Mom!"

"Ye..Oh," She said as she walked into the entrance of the house, where I was currently laying on the floor. "What'd you do now?"

"Really?" I asked as I stood up and held her purse in the air.

"Oh gosh," My mom shook her head, laughing. "Madison must have moved it earlier. Sorry,"

Wait, was I hearing her correctly?

"Wait," I said slowly, setting down my bag. "What did you just say?"

"Madison..she's upstairs. Why?"

Instead of answering her, I turned around and was sprinting up the stairs. Taking two at a time, I turned the corner and stopped in front of the door I knew my little cousin would be in.

Smiling, I put my forehead against the door and listened to her as she played with her dolls, like she always does. I let out small laughs as she tried to deepen her voice, pretending to be a guy doll. But her five year old voice not doing much good, causing her voice to come out in a squeak.

Knocking on the door softly, I stepped back and waited for her to open it. Instead of coming to the door though, I heard her light voice say come in. Turning the door knob, I stepped inside and saw that her back was facing the door, not caring who came in.

"Mind if I join you?" I said softly, a smile on my face.

Realization hit her, and her back was no longer facing me. "Selena!" She squealed as she ran up to me, her small arms wrapping around my much larger frame. I felt her hands fist my shirt as she tightened her grip on me.

"Hey," I smiled and looked down at her, running my fingers through her brown hair.

Her grip continued to get tighter, and soon, I eventually had to pry her little arms off of me. She stepped back, looking up at me with a smile on her face.

"Play with me!" She shouted as she ran past me. Following her, I sat down and smiled as she handed me one of her dolls.
