Kendra gripped onto Faolan's soft, black fur. They were loping back towards the Territory River. They sat in grim silence as they raced towards the City in the Trees. She was afraid. What had happened to Lucas? Did they hurt him? They were running along the riverside now. Faolan slowed down and she slid off of him. He turned human. "What's wrong?" She asked. He growled.
"Naga's are camped at the beach. And I think that Lucas might be in the camp." Faolan said. Kendra's face fell. If the Naga's had Lucas, then that wasn't good. They crept up to the camp and ducked into some barrels as some Naga's slithered past. Kendra peeked out of her barrel and slowly climbed out. Faolan followed. They crossed between some tents and saw a big one. "There." Faolan whispered. Kendra slowly peeked around the tent. There were no guards or anything.
"Weird." Kendra whispered. "Where are they all?" She asked. Faolan sniffed and then answered.
"Not here. There are only two Naga's here, and they are on patrol. This is the tent." Faolan said. He slipped under the back of the tent and disappeared. Kendra sighed and then followed. Inside the tent, the stench of rotting flesh and garbage flowed up Kendra's nose. She gagged and covered her nose. It didn't help. All the sudden, a cry caught her attention.
"Kendra!" I yelled. She looked over at me and ran over. She cut the rope with water and she hugged me. I hugged her back. "Where were you?" I asked.
"I got stuck on a rock in the middle of a waterfall. What happened to you?" She asked. I told her what had happened. She went over and cut Chase's bindings. He rubbed his hands. I got up and went over to Faolan.
"You okay, man?" I asked. He nodded. He looked at Chase with hatred.
"How could he do that? I'm a person too. I am not responsible for all the awful things my pack does." He said. I nodded.
"Yeah. It is wrong. You can't control your pack, can you?" I said. His face fell.
"No. I wish I could. But-" He stopped midsentence. He cocked his head to one side, then the other. "Naga's!" He hissed. We all scrambled to hide. I dove into a barrel. A hissing sound came from the tent flap.
"HOW?!?!" The raspy voice exclaimed. Apparently only the shaman has a smooth voice. More Naga's swarmed into the room. Finally, the shaman appeared. She looked around the room. Her eyes fixed right upon my barrel. She pointed to where my friends had hidden.
"Take them..." She said. Several Naga soldiers swarmed forward. I jumped out of the barrel, a brilliant idea forming in my mind.
'You are going to die.' The Voice said.
'You don't always have to be negative.' I scolded it. I summoned up my power. I felt it energize me, rejuvenate me. I felt it wash through my every bone, blood vessel, and organ. I felt it fill every pore on my body. I was filled to the brim with energy. Time crawled by so slow that it seemed to stop. I closed my eyes.
'Wait for it. Wait for it......' I thought. 'Now!' I thought. And with that thought, I exploded.
