-------------------------------------

"Brace yourself, you can do this." I said to myself as I zipped my suitcase up. I had packed because it was finally time to go back... A lot has changed since I was home. I chopped my long curls into a short cut, like Jhene Aiko's, who has become one of my favorite singer. But not only my physical appearance has changed. Being at NYU, has been an eye opener for me. That running away from my problems wasn't always the answer, and I honestly missed my family and friends with everything in me. But returning home, meant I had to face him.. We hadn't spoken since he cheated on me. It was a big reason I wasn't exactly in contact with anyone from back home.. Once I left home, and came to New York, I got settled into my dorm only to realize a small piece of home had traveled with me. One of my best friends; Maggie Lindemann was my college dorm roommate. But not even her free spirited self could distract me from thinking about home. His birthday came and pass. I wrote a happy birthday message, only to never send it; I couldn't face anything he had to say. My birthday then came, I recieved messaged and gifts from everyone, and even one from him..

'Happy birthday Baby x' it read. Little did he know, I no longer went by that nickname, just simply by my name. Lia.

After my birthday passed, I began feeling lonelier and lonelier. I stopped going out, the drinking didn't do anything for me anymore. I began secluding myself in my room. Maggie would go out, inviting me to tag along, but I honestly couldn't do it. On the weekends I would spend my time shopping and roaming the city I now called my temporary home. While it was beautiful, I didn't want to be there any longer.

"You sure you need to leave?" Maggie asked, plopping on the end of her bed. I gave her a small smile

"Yes, while I really like New York.. It isn't exactly for me. I'll visit though!" I said, hoping that my attempt at comforting her would make her stop talking

"fine fine what ever" she said. I smiled slightly and she helped me downstairs and loaded my suitcases into the car

"I'll miss you bitchhhhh. call me as soon as you land.. and hey.. don't let people get the best of you" she said. I nodded and wrapped my arms around her

"I'll miss you.. and behave" I said. she squeezed back and I got into the car.

"JFK please" I told my cab driver. he grunted in response and began driving. I looked back, and saw Maggie watching us the entire way.

---------------
The process of an airport is the part of traveling I hate the most. After checking in and what not I still had an hour till I had to board the plane. I decided to grab a coffee at dunkin.

"one medium iced dark roast with extra cream, extra sugar and caramel" I said. she rang me up and handed me my change. after I got my drink I sat with my bags and replied to some texts from family and friends and for a second.. just for a second.. I thought I saw him.. walk by.. but it wasn't him. I felt as though my paranoia was beginning to set in so I just shook it off.

"I just want to go home.." I whispered under my breath. after the hour passed, I loaded onto my flight. I luckily got the window seat and I was surprisingly the only one in my row. After I got comfortable I put my earphones in, and paid for the Internet on the plane so I could catch up on secret life, my newest addiction. after about four episodes, my eyes couldn't stay opened. I read the time and it read

10:15 pm

geez. I felt my eyes began to fee heavy and I put my music on shuffle, I drifted off to sleep by an old song by my brother.. and him. Flights.

-----
I felt someone shake me out of my slumber

"I'm sorry ma'am.. but we've landed honey" the flight attendant said. I stretched and gave her a small smile. After getting my bags and what not I looked around for my family. My phone died so I don't even know what time it was. I spotted my brothers blonde head from a mile away. Looking at him from here, it's so obvious to tell were adopted. I ran, with all my bags in tow, and hugged him. He immediately hugged back and I just held onto him.

"Gosh Lia, I've missed you so much.." he whispered. I smiled up at him.

"missed you too Johnson.. let's get home I'm beat" I said. He held onto me for a few more seconds and then we made our way to the car

------------
The ride home was uneventful. Johnson filled me in and I listened the whole time

"I'm mad you need to leave after break" he huffed. A small smile formed on my lips.

"wellllll..." I started. he looked over at me

"welllll?" he asked. I bit my lip and smiled even more

"New York isn't for me.. I'm staying" I said. his face lit up instantly

"you've kept it from me?" he said. I nodded and he shook his head

"you're lucky I love you" he mumbled. I grinned and looked to the road

"the only sucky part is I have to stay with mom and dad" I said.

"no worries, I have an extra room. stay with me" he said.

"really?" I asked

"sure. no one wants to liv with their parents when they're in college. well get you moved in tomorrow" he said.

"okay cool" I replied. We pulled up to my parents house, and once inside, I was showered with hugs and kisses by friends and family. and for the first time in forever.. I wasn't worried about Jack.
