“Come on.” My mother said again. I placed a flower on the newly filled hole and followed. My stepfather was waiting for us at the carriage. Unfortunately, so were his daughters. I sighed. Maybe meeting them wouldn't be all that bad. I bowed to them and they curtsied.

“I'm Rani!” The first one said.

“And I'm Quinn.” The other said.

They both had blond hair and blue eyes. It would have been hard to tell them apart if it wasn't for Quinn being paler and taller.

“Harris.” I said.

“Well Harris, we welcome you to the family.” My stepfather said in a very unwelcoming way.

“Thank you!” I said trying not to think of his tone.

“I hope you'll enjoy your stay at your new home. The servants have already found it quite comfortable.” Rani was saying as we bounced along towards the eastate.

When I saw the house my jaw dropped. It was a lot bigger than our house. My mother had always said we didn't have the need for such a big house..

Laughing Quinn said. “I see you like it.”

These girls were actually kind of nice. My stepfather led me to my room when we arrived. Echoing followed as I walked into the large room.

“How will I ever use all this space?” I wondered aloud.

“We'll get you books of course!” My stepfather answered.

“Really!?” I asked surprised.

“Yes.” He replied.

I imagined books filled with stories of knights going to rescue helpless princesses. Personally I thought the princesses were stuck up brats but I enjoyed reading about the knights' adventures. I was really exited until I learned that the books would be about politics and equations. My mother settled down nicely in the new house. She enjoyed talking to Rani and Quinn and she would spend hours sewing and talking with them. A month passed and I was already bored. My stepfather kept his word about the books and I had to read them so I wouldn't seem ungrateful.
