Monday:
Her eyes opened as the light entered her room from the large window right next to her, on the wall. She looked to the right and used her sore arm to wake up. Wanting to get out of bed, she drops to the floor and rolls until she reaches her desk at the corner of the room, which was pretty small, but, that wouldn't stop her from getting a new home away from Felix. Kelsey felt uncomfortable around him. She never knew how strange it can feel when you talk to your crush.
Using her strength to get off the floor, she jumps up and grabs her phone to check any messages that came overnight.
Message from Lily:"Hey..... Sorry I forgot about you yesterday. I need to make it up.."
That message was it. The only one. Nothing else but Lily's message;text. Kelsey slid her finger across the screen to unlock it and texted Lily back. It was 8:00 am! No limits for texting. Lily was awake. Kelsey said,"Its fine...."
Message from Lily:"Please!! Why don't we go shopping! I'll pick you up in an hour. Gurl, I'm getting you a makeover! No salon though...."
Kelsey just didn't feel like it! Every time something went wrong or Lily felt sorry for Kelsey, they went shopping. It was always the same. She felt disconnected somehow. A day without Lily was a drag, but with her, was shopping. Even though it was shopping, it wasn't bad at all. It was fun. Kelsey replied, "I'm getting ready now. Can you just drive me to the apartment building? Remember!?"
Message from Lily:"Of course!!! Now that I'm available.... So sorry! My aunt can be a big party animal sometimes!!"
Kelsey felt disconnected again. Just like they hung out for a few days. No. She couldn't think like that!! They were best friends since middle school! She texted back..."Not my problem! Thanks for driving me there!"
No more messages appeared and Kelsey knew it was time to dress. She took off her shirt and her bra. They were both stinky and wrinkled. She threw her shirt and bra on her bed to wash afterward. She grabbed her other bra and wore it quickly in a rush. Looking through her clothes in the closet, she picked out the neon-pink crop top and took off her gray sweatpants like Flash.Taking the light-blue ripped jeans from the dresser, Kelsey wore her socks and slipped on her deodorant as fast as she can. No makeup. No time. No connection. Not time to think!! As soon as she goes to the kitchen, she opens the refrigerator and grabs a turkey sandwich she left behind from Thursday's dinner. She bites down on it and savors the flavor but in a quick way. Feeling a need to drink some water, she opens the cabinet and grabs a glass.
Kelsey lets the water run from the filter in the sink. She drinks a glass and finishes her turkey sandwich with a big bite; bigger than her smile. She checks her phone and it seems too bright for her eyes..
Message from Lily:"Hey.. I'm coming in a few minutes!"
Kelsey didn't respond to it. No need. She'll sit in the front seat anyway. She was going to tell Lily that she didn't want to shop either!
A car drove by. It was hot pink. It was Lily!
Kelsey looked through the window when she heard the wheels move across the concrete floor outside. Opening the front door, she sees Lily wave to her face. It was awkward. Why? She never felt like this before! Kelsey ran to Lily's car and sat in the passenger seat."Hey girl!!" Lily exclaimed in excitement.
"Lily, I don't want to go to the mall. All I ask you to do for me today is to drive me to that apartment building."
Lily took a big breath in her lungs and exhaled. "Sure!! Well, I was hoping to shop with you......... But next time, right?!"
