"What the hell happened?" Lucas yelled as he saw Jacob's arm. "I don't remember first year being that dangerous!"
"I just apparently have bad luck," Jacob shrugged.
"Where can I put his bags?" Colby asked.
"You must be his roommate!" Lucas smiled. "Here, I'll show you where to put them. So, are you getting along with my brother?"
"Yes! We are besties, aren't we, Jacob?" Colby smiled.
Jacob chuckled. "Sure."
"What's with that dull answer?" Colby pouted.
"Hey, I'm surprised he even said that," Lucas laughed.
Jacob tuned the two of them out as they both started talking enthusiastically as they walked to a back room. Jacob sighed.
"I don't like combat class anymore," Colby sighed, sitting on a bench.
Jacob frowned, looking around for Aaron. "I don't think Aaron does either. I wonder if they found anything out yet."
Colby shrugged. "I hope they find out where she is soon. Not knowing really sucks."
"No kidding. Now, let's just get through this class."
After barely trying for that day, the boys went to leave.
"Oh, and before you all run away from here," Prof. Collins quickly added. "Next week will begin your first actual mission. No golem fighting. Alright, you may leave."
Both boys headed over to their dorm to relax and watch TV, not caring much for fighting in any sense. Once again, Aaron was nowhere to be seen. No doubt he was working with his dad to find out where Kira was.
"Do you think if Kira comes back all safe and sound we will finally know what is going on?" Colby asked during one of the commercials.
Jacob shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I would like to think they would tell us, but I'm not going to assume they will."
"I guess it doesn't really matter too much," Colby laughed. "As long as she comes back safe, right?"
Jacob smiled. "Yeah."
After a few hours of doing absolutely nothing, Jacob stood up and yawned. "Well, I'm going to head over to my brother's house now."
"Alright. See you tomorrow."
Jacob walked out of the building and into the night air. It was silent since no kids were wandering about anymore. Jacob couldn't help but feel a little on edge as he quickly made his way to the house.
"How was school?" Lucas asked as Jacob walked in the door.
"It was okay," Jacob said. "These last three days have been weird without Kira, though."
"I bet," Lucas frowned. "I made spaghetti for supper."
"Seriously? I should come here for food more often," Jacob laughed.
"You're always welcome!" Lucas smiled, ecstatic that his brother didn't mind spending time with him.
Kira was sore, in pain, but most of all, she was bored. Her back was killing her as she was forced to lean against a stonewall that was jagged and broken. No doubt her back was full of little cuts and scrapes from her moving. Her arms ached as they were held up by her wrists, but none of that really bothered her.
Nobody came by her little cell for what seemed like days. Kira should be thankful, but part of her just wanted to talk. And she wished they would bring her some water. Sure, she didn't need to eat or drink, but it was still nice. Especially as her throat was becoming caked in dirt from the unkempt room.
Kira twisted her wrists, trying to wiggle them through her restraints for about the hundredth time. The bases of her hands were becoming raw, but she didn't care. She just needed to get out of there. How many days did she have? She couldn't take the chance. She had to get out of there soon.
"What are you doing?"
Kira looked up in a slight panic at the sudden noise in the silent room. She didn't even hear the stranger when he walked in.
But now a man that looked to be about twenty-two stood in front of the bars of her cell. He was dressed black, head to toe. Black long-sleeve shirt with black pants and black boots that reached his knee. His hair was also black, but with bleached white bangs that swooped in front of his right eye.
"I'm trying to get the hell out of here," Kira answered simply. "Wouldn't you?"
"I suppose. But you're only causing yourself pain trying to do the impossible."
"Says who?" Kira glared. "What if it just so happens to work?"
"Then a bunch of demons just waiting for you to try to run will have fun beating you down."
"And are you one of those demons?"
"Oh no," he said, leaning against the bars. "I'm not much a person to inflict pain on others."
"No?" Kira asked. "Then what are you doing here?"
"You know the news is spreading by now. Demons have to pick a side. This just so happens to be the winning one."
"What makes you so sure?"
"Because we have so many chances to win. If you escape now, it's not like we have to wait years upon years for the right time once again. The universe favors us. You can't hide away in that school forever. Normal people who find out what you are won't accept you."
Kira looked down towards the ground. "You don't know that."
"Unfortunately, I do. Call it a personal experience."
Kira looked up and into the man's eyes. "Who are you?"
"The name is Talon."
"Well, Talon, I believe that I will escape and I will win."
"The only way for you to win is to kill someone and make the others look for another righteous demon."
"You know as well as I do that that would never happen."
"Which is why this side will win," Talon shrugged, leaning away from the bars and turning away.
"How many days until the next full moon?" Kira asked. "At least give me that."
Talon glanced back. "You have five days to pull off your escape. If not, by the end of the week Lucifer will be risen."
Kira watched as Talon disappeared. Five days. That should be enough time. She continued to grind her wrist into the shackle. If she could just get one hand free, she could pick the lock of the other. As more skin started to wear away, the blood almost acted like a lubricant and she could feel her hand slowly pulling free.
