Anyway, when I helped out at Brownies last Thursday we happened to go on a visit to the local diving museum so I brought my little Tweak and Barnacles toys along. I thought they both would be really interested in the stuff they had there - old diving bells (you can see two in the background) and pressure tanks and breathing equipment etc. All of this seemed ancient in comparison to the super-sleek gadgets Tweak makes for the crew!
Hearing what lengths divers have to go through to be able to survive the pressure of deep water made me wonder just how many jobs those orange deep sea suits do - it appears Tweak made them able to de-pressurise the Octonauts so they aren't crushed by the water pressure as well as keep them toasty warm so they can double as arctic gear! (It also seems the lack of pressure means they don't have to breathe helium. :D )
There were lots of diving suits from all different eras too, right from the bulky helmets of the Victorian period to modern sports diving apparatus. Some of the masks were pretty freaky-looking - the sooner someone invents Octonauts-style bubble helmets the better! It appears that the museum staff knew about the Octonauts too - there was an Octonauts DVD boxset in the gift shop.
Tweak and Barnacles got to meet some of the girls before it was time to go. Dad took this (really grainy!) picture of them from inside the car as they waved goodbye to the museum, having had a lovely date together. I only hope Kwazii doesn't feel left out - Tweak knows he really wants to go out with her!
