I got the idea for this drawing (and the upcoming sequel) from this picture I found where Mad Mod gives the Teen Titans colourful 1960s outfits: https://neversidefaerie.tumblr.com/image/159941088163 which gave me an idea. What if I drew each Titan in clothes based upon a previous decade?
For Starfire, I chose the 1960s because the fashion of the time seems very much like something she'd wear. She already wears a miniskirt and belt, so I was easily able to adapt for her outfit, and I gave her a bouffant hairstyle. I went with the 1970s for Robin because I knew I could easily turn his iconic outfit into a typical boys' ensemble of the time. Young lads wore blazers, wide-collared shirts and bell bottoms, often in bright, garish colours. I made his hair a little longer too as overgrown hair on males was very popular back then.
While I was researching for this drawing, I stumbled upon this official Teen Titans video clip. It turns out I'm not the only one who had the idea to dress them in a retro style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la3DwKOC7os
