Yes, yes, even I have done this. But seriously, how many variations of "my brother is in one direction, and I fell in love with one of his bandmates" can there be?
I may sound like a total hypocrite for this one, considering my story was about a girl falling in love with her famous best friend.
But to be honest, most times, unless you can incorporate some sort of original idea into the overused plot, it just gets plain repetitive.
For me personally, I get bored if I feel a "new" story is one I have already read before. And trust me, I have read a loooooooot of One Direction fanfictions. I've read ones where the main character is Niall's sister and she starts dating Harry, or Liam. I've read ones where the main character's father marries Harry Styles' father, and she falls in love with her half brother. I've read tons where One of the One Direction boys is her teacher, and she falls for him.
These are all wonderful ideas for the story, but loves, seriously, when I read some of them, after awhile, they all just blur together.
I'm not saying this to sound mean, or say I'm judging your stories. The way you write them is normally good, but the story line doesn't do your writing style any justice. You can be the greatest writer in the world, but if your plot is overused, then nobody will want to read it. Am I right?
If my story was just the standard run of the mill "lucy met harry fell in love had a kid the end" it wouldn't have gotten half as far as it did. I had to spice it up a little. Yes, there were quite a few people that found the story to be "too dramatic", but it was that little flair of drama that made my story unique.
Guys, I have the utmost faith in you and your ability to come up with an original plot. It can be anything! Honestly. And who's to say the boys have the be in the band? I have read absolutely incredible fanfictions, which didn't even involve the boys being singers. It didn't even have all of the boys! Gosh, I forget what the title was, but there was one, that was just about Harry, and oh gosh, it was wonderful. The story was so wellwritten, and original, and cute, and dsjkaldjkladjkas. It is probably one of my favorite stories on here, and it was only a "Fanfiction" for using Harry Styles.
I love writing, period, but it is so hard for me to control my thoughts to go with one simple story. And to keep it organized. Oh goodness. That's a whole new world of problems. What I liked about fanfiction was there wasn't the added difficulty of making up characters. They were there for you to use, and it was wonderful.
I'm not saying you CAN'T use one of those storylines that is already in use, because let's face it. To a general degree, almost everything has already been written. But if you do want to write something about falling in love with a famous boy, don't make it the simple "they fall in love and live happily ever after". Because it's more realistic when things don't go perfectly.
And people nowadays seem to like more realistic things. This isn't just me saying this either, I received LOOOOOOADS of comments and messages from people, saying that they loved Dancing Styles BECAUSE it seemed more realistic.
This isn't just me guys.
This is the people of Wattpad speaking to me as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I'll have #2 up later(:
