Coming up with a good leading character can be one of the hardest things ever. Trust me, I've been there. I still AM there.
But a lot of the stuff I read is either about a rich snobby girl who has everything, and eventually gets the guy, or about a girl who has nothing; a complete outcast, that the boy is attracted to because she is different.
Is there no inbetween? Are there no middle class girls who have a few good friends, that are involved slightly in their schools anymore? I mean, I have yet to really see a story with a character like that. I've seen lots of others, the
"emo hardcore goth girl that hates the world with a secret one direction obsession".
"princess of the family who has been given everything since birth and seduces the band boy"
"underground singer/songwriter who is discovered by one of the boys and becomes worldfamous"
"antisocial girls who live on tumblr and reblog about the boys 24/7"
Stories like that are so much fun to read. But what about the normal girls? The ones who like the boys, but have a life? That do other things than live on tumblr?
It seems that the girls in the story either have everything or have nothing.
Have you guys tried putting YOURSELF into the story? Make YOU the main character. It gives you a totally different perspective of your story. Trust me loves. It sounds like it would be sort of hard to do, but once you start writing and getting into the story, it's so easy to keep going with it. It's your own thoughts, and feelings, and it works wonders, because it's YOU. And when people start saying they love your character, and give reasons, I think that can be a sort of confidence booster.
People like the way you would think. Like your thoughts. Agree with you.
Call me crazy, but I think that would play better into a story than making up some fantasy girl. It's more personal that way.
