The books have been written and the movies are in production but no one can decide which is better: The Hunger Games or Divergent. Their similarities have brought up much debate about whether Divergent was inspired by or copied from The Hunger Games. Even though The Hunger Games and Divergent are thought to be quite similar, they are actually very different.

One of those differences is the places the characters live in. The Hunger Games is located in the ruins of North America while Divergent takes place specifically in the ruins of Chicago. Panem, the name of the country that The Hunger Games takes place in, is split into 12 districts. On the other hand, Divergent takes place in a city split into five factions. Each district in Panem produces a specific resource while the factions are based off of a character trait (selflessness, intelligence, bravery, peacefulness, and honesty). People are born into their districts, but in Divergent, you have the ability to choose your faction once you've reached the age of 16.The characters in the story also have different relationship problems. Tris has all eyes on Tobias but can't decide for sure if he's an enemy or not. Katniss can't decide between her best friend and hunting partner Gale, or Peeta, the boy who her feelings grow for during her experience in the Games.

The Hunger Games and Divergent may have many differences, but they also have many similarities. Both stories take place in a dystopian society in North America. Also, in each story, there is a group of people rebelling against a corrupt government. In Divergent, Tris Prior is the sixteen year old heroine. In the same way, Katniss Everdeen is the sixteen year old heroine in The Hunger Games. Also, both characters have romantic interests although the conflicts between the interests are different.

Despite their differences and similarities, both of these stories have a special place in my heart. They both portray the message of standing up for what is right and being brave even when it's hard. Whether I'm hunting in the woods of District 12 or jumping on a train with the Dauntless group, I will never forget the stories of Katniss and Tris.

I don't even like this paper idk why I posted it haha
