when the world stops waiting

{random thoughts as I drown in my busy schedule}

when the world stops waiting

remember when you were a kid
and you walked around with your parents by your side
and if you ever slowed down or stopped they would automatically wait for you

remember that moment
when one day you were walking around with your parents by your side
and you stopped to tie your shoe
but as you finished and looked up they were twenty feet ahead of you

remember when not understanding something mattered
when you couldn't figure out one plus one so the teacher helped you find two
when the letters just wouldn't flow out of your pencil just right
but someone was there to shake them out of you

there comes a time when it all stops
you're expected to keep going on your own
when you stop in the middle of a hike to take pictures of the trees
looking up and discovering you're alone shouldn't be a surprise

waiting has turned into a child's gift
no one is going to wait for you to catch up
even if your world feels like it's spinning at two hundred miles an hour

no
one
cares
enough
to wait

doesn't matter how behind you are
how sad you are
how happy you are
how sick of life you are
how ready for life you are

it doesn't matter what your excuse is because
someone out there will find a way to make it
irrelevant

when you need time
don't expect it
because the world has stopped waiting
and it doesn't have time for stragglers
