The Doctor's POV

We stepped outside, and looked around for the danger. Plumes of black smoke filled the air above the city, and bright flashes of lasers shined off of building windows. Ellie gasped, and back against the TARDIS, fear glinting in her eyes.

" Doctor..." She breathed.

" What? What is it?" I asked.

" Are those.... Daleks?" She asked, barely above a whisper. I scanned the air with my sonic screwdriver, and sure enough, I got a reading back. Dalek. I frowned at my sonic, and placed it back inside of it's pocket in my coat.

" Yes, Ellie...They are Daleks." I said gravely.

" I remember them... Th-they killed-" She bit her sleeve, tears forming in her eyes. " They killed my parents..." I knelt infront of her, and took her other hand in mine.

" Ellie, you don't have to come." I said quietly. " If it hurts too much, just stay in the TARDIS, nice and safe. Drink a cup of tea, watch some telly, whatever."

" No..." She said, blinking away the tears. " I do have to come." She wiped at her eyes, and cleared her throat. " Let's go." She said, firmly. I gave her a weak smile, and nodded. She saw my smirk, and she narrowed her eyes.

" Don't you say it..." She said, pointing her finger at me. " I know what you're gonna say-!"

" Allons-y!" I exclaimed.

We hide behind the corner of a building, watching Daleks roam the streets of New York. Ellie held onto my hand so hard, I began to lose feeling in it. I didn't make note of it, though. She was petrified.

" What do we do?" She hissed.

" I.. Don't know.." I said, quietly. " They usually have a purpose for coming here, but... They..Don't." I said, watching as a Dalek shot an innocent by-stander. Flashes from the Time War filled my mind, and I rewatched the Daleks claim the lives of many TimeLords. Children, mothers, fathers... My family. I cleared my mind, and an idea came up. I turned around, and faced Ellie.

" Listen, I'm about to do something oh-so-stupid, and I need you to stay here... Don't follow me. If I'm not back by tonight-" I took the spare TARDIS key from my coat pocket, and placed it in her hands. " Take the TARDIS, and leave. I have the co-ordinance for your apartment, about five minutes from when we left pre-loaded. Just hit ' GO ', and the TARDIS will bring you there, and then return to me once your safe."

" No, I-I can't leave you..." She protested. " Doctor, you are the only other TimeLord in exsistance.. Why would I leave you?"

" Because, you are the only other TimeLord." I replied. " You are so young, Ellie-"

" Nine hundred ain't too bad!" She said, folding her arms infront of her.

" Yes, I suppose I am kind of young to some people." I sighed. " But you're even younger, Ellie.. You need to go live your life....." I took the psychic paper from my trench coat. " Place the paper in the TARDIS' system. There is a message on there."

" What does it say?" She asked, looking over the pages, which appeared to be blank.

" It's a code for the TARDIS. If I die-"

" Don't say that. You, Doctor, will not die. Not now, not ever." She said, narrowing her eyes at me.

" If I do.... The TARDIS will return to you, and she'll be yours." I told her. She leaned against the brick wall, looking blankly into space. " Earth needs protecting, Ellie.. I won't always be there." I said, giving her one last smile. No responce. She was still in shock. I nodded grimly, and turned back around. I took a deep breath, and ran out into the street.

" Daleks!" I shouted, getting their attention. A shiver of fear ran down my spine, as the voices of a hundred Daleks filled the air, all of them shouting the same thing:

" Exterminate! Exterminate the Doctor!! "
