Weeks passed and Hungary's picnic was approaching. She had taken the last day off to make the preparations, to Prussia's surprise, with no complaint from Russia. Normally neglecting work would be a capital offence but it seemed he was too busy with something going on in Moscow.

When Prussia arrived there was something of a festival going on. There was a band, tents pitched, and large crowds of people, but there was something else odd that Prussia noticed. There were no guards. Usually a place this close to the borders would have been heavily guarded but there didn't seem to be any here.

"East, over here!" called Hungary, waving to get his attention as she scurried about a crowded picnic table.

Prussia scanned the table as he approached Hungary. It seemed like she'd invited everyone, all of the Baltics were there, Russia sisters, even Romania was there roasting some Kürtőskalács over a rotisserie. The only one he didn't see was Russia.

"I brought some wurst." He said handing a large dish to Hungary.

"Oh, thank you." She said taking the dish, "They look delicious." Her eyes quickly darted toward The Wall and Prussia looked over to what it was she'd glanced at, but nothing was there, not even security, just an open gate. When he'd looked back Hungary had already taken her seat.

"Hey, Prusy, like, over here." Called Poland sitting between Hungary and Lithuania. The only one who still called him Prussia was Poland, only he said it in Polish. It didn't quite have the same effect.

Prussia sat down and observed all the food the others had brought. Aside from Romania's chimney cakes there was cepelinai, putra, and piirakka, curtesy of the Baltics, stuffed peppers and goulash from Hungary, and pierogi from Poland. And yes, there was plenty of beer.

After they had all eaten to their content, Hungary proposed a game of "football." Poland immediately declared his own team, and Prussia then declared that his awesomeness would had to have his own team as well, and so they became the team captains.

Poland took the lead in starting the drafts.

"I, like totally, pick my little sister for my team!"

Prussia rolled his eyes. "You don't have a little sister."

"He means me." Said Hungary walking up to stand with her team captain.

"But you are not related!" Prussia protested.

"We don't have to be."

"Yeah, Hungary is, like, my soul sister." Said Poland as they hugged.

"We have things in common in other ways."

"What like your wardrobe?" said Prussia under his breath, but Hungary still glared at him.

"Well, I'm not going to be on a team if Hungary is going to be there." Argued Romania.

"If Prusy gets Transylwania, then I totally get Liet."

"Wait, I didn't say I wanted him on my team!"

After a few more squabbles and debates as to who will go where, they had finally split up evenly, and were able to start the game.

At first Poland's team won, but they were promptly challenge to a rematch, after declaring the first one folly. Then Prussia's team was likewise challenged after their victory. They continued on with this process of challenging and re-challenging, going from best 2 out of 3 to something like best 7 out of 13, until they had completely lost count of the score and were exhausted.

They were sprawled about the field after having collapsed at the end of the game and were only just beginning to pick themselves back up and were gathering into small clusters as they talked amongst themselves.

Prussia had stretched out on the lawn and was laying with his eyes closed enjoying the warm summer sun when Hungary came and sat beside him. The rough way she sat down had alerted him she was there and he looked up to see her pouting.

"What?" he asked simply.

"Did you even look at The wall?"

"Yeah, I did."

"Then did you happen to notice the gaping hole in it?" she said, gesturing to the completely unguarded gate to Austria.

"Yeah, they should close that, someone could get out."

Hungary face palmed. "Sometimes I think you could be the dumbest person on earth!" He looked around in confusion at this sudden insult. "We disabled those on purpose so your people could escape! Don't you see?" she explained as he sat up to listen, "We could do it you and me. We could get back our independence, our freedom, if we could just put enough pressure on Russia to open the borders."

"What makes you think that will work?"

"Because it worked for Poland."

"What?"

"Poland is leaving the union. Solidarity has already opened debates the USSR and he is seceding from the union. Russia is dependent on us. As we got weaker so did he. If we rebel now he won't be able to hold us."

Prussia looked at the unguarded gate, the open void calling him to freedom. "You know sometimes I think you could be the craziest person on earth." In the end what did he have to lose? He held a hand up to her. "Let's do it."

She grabbed it and gripped it tight. "Together."

A/N Fact time! Poles and Hungarians apparently get along very well. Supposedly they even refer to each other as cousins or siblings. Also despite Hungary televising the disassembly of its border controls before that picnic only a few hundred East German visitors actually, and I quote, "got the hint." That's why I left Prussia oblivious. Yay facts!
