Chapter 3: the fight:
It was the day we go to the coast. I taught my dad a few of the best Navy techniques werewolf style yesterday and he learned them pretty quickly. I was satisfied that my mom and dad would have good protection.
Mom wanted us to stay for one more breakfast so we did. "Race ya to the edge." Tala said. "You're on." we shifted and raced to the edge of the territory. Surprisingly Tala won but I think I'm getting a little out of shape from being wounded for 2 weeks.
Jake was laughing in my head "I can't believe she won against you Lucas." That's when I playfully tackled him and won dominance over him. "At least I'm not scared of her." I laughed in his head. "We better get moving if we wanna be there by sundown." I told them so we started running.
We found a diner in New Albany Mississippi where we shifted and stopped for lunch. For a small restaurant it sure was popular. We went in and every head turned our way.
Must not see many new faces around here I thought but then I noticed they had the news on and my face was still on there. I guess they were wondering how I healed so quickly. "Looks like you're a celebrity now brother." Tala said.
We were led to a table and sat down. "What would y'all like to drink?" A waitress asked us with a heavy southern accent.
Jake and I ordered a sweet tea while Tala ordered a Pepsi. They had a buffet out so we went and got us some food while we waited on our drinks.
When we finished eating and left the table we left a good tip and went to pay for our food. "You don't have to pay for the meal it's on us. Not often that a soldier comes in this little restaurant." We thanked her and left.
Before we left town we went to Wal-Mart and got some camping supplies and a backpack each so we would have a way to carry our supplies. I also need a new knife so I went to look for the knives and got me a new tactical knife.
I found Tala and Jake and we went to check out. The cashier wouldn't stop flirting with Tala so I told him to back off she's not interested.
I showed him my I.D. for the knife and we left. "Thanks for defending me back there Lucas."
"No problem I'll always be there for you sis." I told her. We left town and walked to the nearest forest that was in the direction we were headed and shifted out of sight of the road. We left New Albany stomachs full of some of the best food we tasted besides mom's cooking.
We ran for hours until we finally came upon the pack's territory at the gulf coast. We were immediately met by the alpha so I shifted and announced my challenge.
"I, Lucas Anghelescu, challenge you to a fight to the death over control of this pack." I said. He looked arrogant which can get you killed and said "Very well when will you be ready?"
"Sundown tomorrow." Was the time I told him. He accepted and I went with Jake and Tala to find a place to camp for the night.
We found a small clearing near the ocean and set up camp. While Jake was getting firewood and Tala was with me setting the tents up I looked at her to talk to her.
"I want you to stay away from the fight tomorrow. You can stay with the ones who aren't going to be watching but I don't want you to get hurt." She snorted at the idea "Like you can keep me from watching you kick that mistake of an alpha's butt. I'm watching the fight whether you like it or not."
I sighed frustrated "Fine but you will not try to jump into the fight and I expect you to stay at the sidelines behind some of the others because if you get hurt I'll never forgive myself." She nodded happy with my decision.
Jake came back with an armload of firewood and we started the fire to sit for a while and cleaned and roasted a rabbit we caught along the way.
Just before we went to bed I got Jake's attention "I need you to help me train for the fight, wake me up at 5:00 if I'm not up by then." He nodded and we went to our tents.
I lay there thinking about the fight and what I would do when it was over. I fell asleep with that on my mind and dreamed of what would happen.
I woke up at 4:30 the next morning and started doing push-ups to warm up. After the warm up I ran for a mile and ran back because Jake would be waking up right about now.
I got to the campsite to see him sitting by the fire waiting for me. "You ready Jake?" I asked because we would be practice fighting in our wolf forms and he nodded. I shifted and he followed suit.
We lunged at each other and I got him on the ground in about ten seconds. I still needed to be better I would be satisfied when I got him down in less than five seconds.
We kept on until I was satisfied and then we went on a run along the beach until about lunchtime.
We raced back to camp to find Tala cooking a fish over the fire. "That smells good." Jake spoke up and I agreed it did smell good.
We ate lunch and I trained for a few hours then we went to the territory of the pack. We met up with their alpha as he was announcing my challenge to the pack.
One of the women came to me telling me how he deserved to die. "I promise he will not leave the fight alive." I reassured her and she thanked me and hurried away.
It was almost time for the fight so I ate some kind of soup one of the women gave me for strength and energy. It did give me more energy so I was ready.
I returned the bowl and spoon and met the alpha in a fighting circle and shifted. There was a crowd gathered and I was happy to see my sister closer to the middle of the crowd.
I let him lunge at me first but ducked low and bit him on the stomach and I was going easy on him. He turned away to prepare to lunge again but this time I went after him before he could come after me and we reared up on our hind legs neither getting a bite out of the other.
My sister started cheering me on so I was ready to end it but I wanted him to suffer some. He came at me while I was distracted but only got a small chunk out of my shoulder.
I lunged at him and decided to go on and end his life so I grabbed him around the back of the neck and crushed his spine. My sister ran forward after I shifted back and looked at my shoulder.
"It looks bad." She said. "I can feel it already healing so don't worry about it it's nothing." She looked at the wound once more before turning away and heading to a group of women I'm guessing she already made friends with.
The same woman from earlier came up and thanked me so I asked her the original name of this pack. "Blood moon was it's old name."
I decided I would go to bed and think about the new name so I said goodnight to Jake and Tala and fell asleep feeling victorious.
