Chapter 5: the celebration:
It was the day of the celebration at the base so I decided to get things ready for a cookout for the pack and I needed to get me a new car today. "Jake!" I called my brother over.
"I need to go get a car and we are having our own 4th of July celebration for lunch today for the pack so I need you to come with me, grab the old alpha's car we are going to trade it in and get a grill and some other supplies."
"Ok I'll meet you in the garage." Jake said. I mind linked my 3rd and told him to keep an eye on the pack until I got back.
I told Tala where we were going and asked if she wanted anything specific. She gave me a list and I met Jake in the garage.
I got in and drove to the nearest used car lot and found a nice dark blue Hummer and traded the car in for that. We only had to pay a little extra so we paid it and went to the nearest store.
It was Wal-Mart so it would have what we needed. I told Jake to find a nice grill and the grilling supplies while I got the stuff on the list.
We needed hot dogs, hamburger meat, cake mix, and some drinks.
I got enough to feed 480 werewolves and some Pepsi, Mtn. Dew, and dr. Pepper. I went to check out and paid the full amount of $200 and went to the car to see Jake already had the grill and grilling supplies in the back.
I got the food loaded in and we headed home. Tala was waiting by the door and we gave her the cake mix and Jake and I sat up the grill and started grilling.
We got everyone fed and I let the pack get fireworks for tonight so they could celebrate with their families. "Thanks for the food alpha we never done this with the old one." It was one of the kids.
"Well I'm not him and I promise we will celebrate like this every holiday we can." She looked to be about 6 and reminded me of Mark's little girl.
I stood up when her mother came around and got her. "You have a beautiful little girl she looks just like you." I told her. "Thank you alpha I'm happy to hear that." She said with a smile and walked off with her girl.
I smiled and went to my office to pass the time and to manage some things. I need to see about getting more warriors trained and training them myself. I must've gotten lost in thought because it was 5:00 when I looked at the time.
I mind linked Jake and Tala to get ready we are leaving in a few minutes. "Ok we'll be down in a couple of minutes." They both replied.
I went to put on my uniform because that's what the captain told me to wear and went to get the other two. "You ready?" I asked them. "Yes we're ready."
I got my keys and Tala had made some of her rotel recipe to bring because she thought we should bring something so I got that and we headed to the car.
On the way over to the base I thought about what I was going to say in my speech. It had to be perfect.
We were at the gate when I decided on the speech and they let us through remembering me from yesterday. "Enjoy the celebration." They called out after us.
"Will they have fireworks?" Tala asked me. "Of course what's a 4th of July celebration at night without the fireworks?" I told her.
We got parked and Jake asked about the captain just when he showed up. "Lucas, I'm glad you made it. Who are your guests?"
He asked.
"These are my triplet brother and sister Jake and Tala younger by a minute each." He shook both their hands and Tala asked what to do with her rotel.
"You didn't have to bring anything but just go put it on that table over there." She did as she was told.
It was about time for speeches so he told me to meet him backstage. I looked at Jake "See you in a bit Jake wish me luck." I told him just before I walked off.
The captain got on stage and started his speech. "We are here to celebrate what our brothers in arms have accomplished in the past. The fireworks represent the fallen and the wars that raged on, the flag represents our freedom, and we represent today's generation because we are still working hard to keep the freedom of the United States of America. Let's keep on defending the American way of life and the freedom of America. I am proud to present a man joining us today, he was transferred from Tennessee and he will give you a speech to tell you his story. Lucas if you will come on out and give your speech." So I came out onstage and gave my speech.
"I am glad to be with you all here tonight and I am always happy to celebrate what the fallen warriors have done for America. I am celebrating the life of my friend back with my old team who died saving me. I was shot twice by a sniper in Russia on a mission to save the eight American hostages and after I blacked out my friend was shot by the same sniper just as the choppers were getting there to evacuate the wounded. People consider me one of the best in the U.S. Navy but I believe some of you might actually be able to live up to the standards that I have lived up to. I have been transferred here to help train you men and to join this team, it will not be easy training but the results will be promising. If you have any questions ask me before I leave. Thank you and enjoy the show."
"That was good Lucas." My captain told me. "I try and that was one of the hardest speeches to think about in my life." I told him honestly.
We got with the crowd and the fireworks began. One firework reminded me of that day just a couple of weeks ago. When I was shot was the boom, the crackling pops were the machine guns of the Russians, and the darkness after was when I blacked out.
After the fireworks show it was time to eat. We got in line and I met some of my new team in the food line.
We sat down and one guy, his name was Max, came and asked if he could sit by us. "Sure you can sit here." I told him and he sat across from Jake, Tala, and I. "You all three look just alike are you triplets?" He asked amazed at the resemblance.
"Yes we're triplets that's my younger brother, Jake and sister, Tala a minute age difference each." He stared in wonder I'm guessing because he's never seen triplets before. "You look like you've never seen triplets before." Tala said voicing my thoughts.
"No I haven't just a set of twins that are on the team their names are Lilly and Alex." Just when he said that two ladies appeared and said "Talking about us Max?" They looked identical except for their eye color and they looked at Max. "Not really I was just telling these guys about you." Their heads snapped to us and their eyes widened. "You're the transfer aren't you?" One of them asked me. "Yes ma'am I sure am. Came here a couple of weeks after I left the mission in Russia."
The other, Lilly, I think asked what happened. I told them my story and why I came back so early and they took it all in. "Wait, you're the werewolf aren't you?" Alex asked. "Because no human can heal that fast and most wouldn't survive."
"Yes I am a werewolf. Hope you're not scared of us because we don't bite." I joked. She giggled nervously. "Not scared so much as nervous of the training you're going to be giving us." Alex said.
"So Lucas, how was your old team?" Max asked. "It was good, a great group of men to work with and we suffered a great loss when Mark died, he was the next best behind me."
They all looked at me sadly and Max spoke up first. "He was the friend you talked about in the speech wasn't he?" I nodded because thinking about his death still hurt, it felt like losing a brother.
"So did the others complete the mission?" Lilly asked. "Yes, all eight hostages made it back alive with most of the team. I had gotten a call a week later from my old captain that the mission was a success and we had only lost a few men."
We continued to talk about war experiences and family while we ate until it was time to leave. "Well I guess we better go, we have a pack to get back to I just became their alpha yesterday and I gotta make sure they're alright." I told the three.
We said our goodbyes and they said theirs and we left saying bye to the captain before we did. "Lucas!" The captain called after me. "When would you be able to start back to work?" He asked me. "Whenever I'm called back. I'm still healing but I'll be getting the stitches out tomorrow." I told him.
He asked if I could start Tuesday and I said that Tuesday would be fine by me. I was glad to be getting back to work soon. I told Jake to take the hummer back I was going to run home. I shifted and got to the gate and nodded at the guards to open it.
They opened it and I ran through. On the way home I thought about some things pertaining to work and got home before I knew it.
I shifted and walked inside to see my 3rd waiting for me. "Anything happen here today?" I asked him. "Not really just the families setting off their fireworks and celebrating." I nodded and dismissed him and he went home.
I went up to my room because Jake and Tala made it home just before I did and went to sleep.
