CHAPTER FIFTEEN

That’s what makes you beautiful!’ I groaned as I heard the sound of my alarm. What made it even worse was the fact it was One Direction. I quickly turned my alarm off and got out of bed. I pulled on my robe and knocked on Ryan’s door. I opened it and walked inside. I nearly tripped over a truck in the middle of the room but eventually reached his bed. ‘Kiddo, get up! I have to bring you to school soon.’ I walked over to his closet and grabbed some clothes for him. I placed them on a chair and sat on his bed again. I gently shook him. ‘Ryan, buddy, you really have to wake up now,’ I whispered. He groaned and opened his eyes. ‘Good morning,’ I said smiling. I gave him a kiss on his forehead and stood up. ‘Hey buddy, I grabbed you some clothes,’ I said whilst pointing at the chair, ‘Pull ‘em on, I’ll see you downstairs soon, I’ll cook us some breakfast, but you do have to hurry mate.’ I smiled and left the room, walked downstairs, into the kitchen, and grabbed some pancake mix. Five minutes later the whole house smelled of pancakes. ‘Pancakes!’ Ryan yelled whilst he stormed down the stairs. ‘Shh!’ I said and placed a finger on my lips. He laughed and climbed on a chair. I placed a pancake on his plate. ‘Could I have syrup please?’ He asked. ‘Yeah, of course. Here you go!’ I said handed him the syrup. He put it on his pancake and quickly ate. After ten minutes we had both eaten. There were five pancakes left. I placed them on a plate and together with a cup of tea I placed it on a tray and told Ryan to bring to mum. I turned on the TV and decided to put in on Nickelodeon so Ryan could watch his programs. I walked upstairs. ‘Mate, I’m taking a shower and pulling on some clothes, alright?’ I said and poked my head around the corner. ‘You can watch SpongeBob,’ I said smiling and walked into the bathroom. I quickly took a shower and washed my hair. I pulled on some baggy jeans and a white V-neck, combined with my Converse. I quickly grabbed my phone and put in in my pocket. I than put some gel in my hair, swiping my curls to one side. I ran downstairs with my car keys in my hand, ready to go. ‘You ready to go mate?’ I asked him. ‘I’m coming Jammie!’ he yelled and ran into the hallway where I was waiting for him. ‘We’re late!’ I said stressed and we ran to my car. I helped him in and quickly got in too. I started the car and had a heart attack; the radio volume was on max. I heard Ryan scream and he covered his ears with his hands while I was trying to put the volume down. It didn’t work so I just turned the radio off. I sighed contently as the noise stopped. ‘No music today I guess,’ Ryan said. I shook my head whilst looking smiling at him via the mirror. He waved and I drove off, quickly driving him to school. As we stopped, I jumped out of the car and swung the door open. ‘C’mon mate, we’re really late,’ I said and helped him getting out of the car. We walked onto the schoolyard and ran inside. ‘Which one is your classroom?’ I asked him. I've never brought him to school; my mum did this usually. He pointed to a door at the end of the hallway. ‘That one,’ he said. We walked in the hallway towards the door. I knocked and a blonde, mid-twenty’s teacher opened the door. ‘Sorry I’m late miss Jackson,’ Ryan said as he awkwardly entered the classroom. The teacher, miss Jackson, looked at me and rose and eyebrow. ‘Why is he so late? Class started five minutes ago,’ she said strictly. ‘Car problems,’ I said simply and Ryan giggled. ‘Don’t let it happen again. And not being rude but who are you actually?’ she asked, eyeing me up and down. ‘I’m his nephew.’ She stared at me blankly. ‘Bye Ryan, have fun!’ I said to him. I shrugged and walked out of the door. I walked out of the hallway, got in my car and drove back home, where I watched some TV to kill the time. At 2.30 PM I left home and drove towards the building where I would be meeting Jessie. I entered the building and Miranda, the same woman as yesterday, was in the waiting room. I was the only one. ‘Hey James, you can immediately enter that room,’ she said happily as she pointed towards a door. I nodded and smiled at her before walking towards the door. I knocked the door and Jessie opened the door. ‘Come in!’ said Jessie smiling warmly at me.

I returned her smile and entered the office we were in. ‘Where’s Mark?’ ‘He called in ill, it’s going to be just you and me for now,’ she said and winked. I smiled and sat down in chair, facing her. ‘So…’ I said. ‘Hi,’ she said awkwardly. ‘Hey.’ ‘How old are you, James?’ ‘I’m 24, and you?’ ‘25.’ ‘So close!’ I said laughing and buried my face in my hands dramatically. She laughed at my actions and pretended to cry. I laughed. ‘Where are you from?’ I asked her, showing some interest in her as well. ‘I’m from England… Born and raised here,’ she said and flashed her amazing smile, which made me smile too. ‘I’m from Ireland, I only moved here 7 years ago.’ ‘Oh really?’ ‘No I’m lying, duhuh,’ I replied and rolled my eyes sarcastically, causing Jessie to laugh. ‘Why’d you move here?’ ‘Well err…’ I started, but Jessie interrupted me. ‘You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to,’ she said smiling, but her eyes were burning with curiosity. ‘My dad died. My mum was broken. There was only one person who could make me happy; my girlfriend Vanessa. I love her so much. But anyways, my mum needed to get away from Ireland, everything reminded her of dad, she couldn’t live there without thinking of him, so we decided to move. To London. It was one of my dad’s dreams to move with us to London. But yeah, now we live in London, everything was fine, everything was great, until five months ago. I remember it all so well. Vanessa was on her way home, she could be there anytime. I was sitting in the living room, waiting for her... Suddenly the phone rang. I took it and... It was a cop. I had to come to the hospital, immediately. Vanessa had been in an accident. I called my mum and we went to the hospital together, I asked for her. We were led into her room, and there she was, laying in bed. She laid there, broken, hurt. I cried when I saw her. I didn’t try tell her it was going to be okay, because we both knew it wouldn’t. I was sitting there, and it hurt to see her broken and knowing I couldn’t do anything about it,’ I said and my voice broke. I sobbed and placed my head in my hands. ‘She passed away the next day. Everyone I loved was gone. I didn’t have any friends, everyone was in Ireland. The only one left was my mum. Me and Vanessa had our own house, but I could bear living there alone, so I moved back in with my mum. I basically laid in bed for three months, sleeping and crying all day long, until about two months ago when my mum forced my to go out. We had some dinner together, and ice cream and then we walked past this wall with posters… with you poster,’ I finished. I smiled at her warmly, even though I was crying. ‘Thank you so much,’ I said in a raspy voice. ‘No, thank you for sharing this with me,’ I noticed Jessie was crying too. I laughed. ‘Look at me, still crying over my ex-fiancé.’ ‘You were engaged?’ Jessie said horrified. ‘Yeah, we were. It was true love, you know. But I have moved on, I will find someone who can make me as happy as she did,’ I smiled. ‘Yeah, there’s plenty of fish in the sea,’ Jessie said. I laughed and we asked each other some more questions. She told me about her life, her family, her youth, and about her being bullied. She told me basically everything I needed to know about her, and it was great, we had so much fun. I was laughing so hard after she told me about some of the silly things she did when she was younger. She blushed. ‘Are you dating anyone at the moment?’ I asked her, still chuckling. ‘Yes, I am actually. I'm very proud to say that I have the best girlfriend ever. You'll meet het today... maybe’ she said. ‘Awr, that's great! And I didn't you you were gay to be honest!' I replied smiling. 'I-I'm not gay,' she said awkwardly, 'I'm bi actually.' 'Oh, okay. I'd love to meet her though.' 'Well get up and you can meet her. Follow me!' She said and jumped up. I did too and followed her to the cafeteria.
