The group of five stood in the parking lot, huddled together by the brown brick of the building wall, listening to Scott's plan. Kurt, Evan, and Sorin would go through the north entrance towards the western side of the building. This was the door they were closest to now. Scott and Jean would make their way to the gymnasium through the north entrance positioned further east. This would put them on both sides of the gymnasium. The plan was for Kurt and Evan to enter the gymnasium from their side, get Blob and Toad's attention, and lure them back out of the building the way the trio had entered. Sorin would turn invisible and move to a position that was out of the way, until they were out of the building. At which time he would move so that he could see into the gymnasium properly and then stay invisible and out of the way until Jean called for him mentally to act. Scott would enter the gymnasium from the other entrance after Blob and Toad had been lured out, and confront Avalanche.

There had been several days where "mutant mischief", a phrase the Headmistress used to describe situations like these, had forced the Headmistress to send everyone home. The end result was usually remedial days of school. Which meant school wasn't going to be over Friday like everyone had expected. They were already a week later than surrounding schools.

But for the X-men-in-training, this divided method had worked in those previous encounters and was their go-to method for handling the Brotherhood trio. Things got more complicated when Quicksilver was involved.

Gymnasium two was a smaller gymnasium, only because it had no bleachers, collapsible or otherwise, and unlike the other gymnasium, only had two entrances, instead of four. From the north entrance Jean and Scott would be going in, it was a short walk past the weight room, right around a corner, and then past the locker rooms which were on opposite sides of the hall. The doors were at the end of that hallway. For Kurt and the others, the door to the gymnasium would be a few steps in, to their left, across from The Shop.

The Shop was a large classroom which instead of desks held machinery and tools. This was where students learned woodworking, metal working, engraving, carving, construction, and various other miscellaneous hands-on techniques. Kurt remembered suffering through that class. Some tools were just not meant for people with three thick fingers. No amount of coaching or practice could get Kurt to solder wires to a circuit board. He somehow managed to wield the soldering iron, a pen-like tool that could heat up to 500 degrees, attached by a long cable to a small control box. Painful burn if you accidentally touched the metal, as Kurt had done once, but eventually Kurt had found a position for his hand that allowed him the use of the soldering iron. However, nothing could be done about his inability to pick up those tiny wires. In the end, Jean had used her powers to move and hold the wire for him, while he held is hologram-covered hand in a position to make it look like he was holding it. He'd lucked out having Shop class with Jean. He was sure he would have failed otherwise.

When Evan quietly opened the double doors and propped them open with two of his spikes in the ground, Kurt and Sorin slipped inside. They could hear Lance and Kitty yelling. Sorin pointed at himself, pointed down the hall, and then faded out of sight. Kurt watched until he couldn't tell Sorin was there anymore. He waited with his back against the wall until Evan came up beside him. Kurt disabled his holo-watch and his blue daemon self appeared. Evan and Kurt bumped fists. They had played this game before.

Evan quietly used a small spike to push out the flat nails holding the doors to the hinges. Kurt held the first one up while Evan worked on the second. When all the flat nails were out, the two lifted the doors right off the hinges and set them aside. They'd learned to lessen the Brotherhood's damage over their years together at school. They sauntered into the gymnasium and Evan made a loud whoop as spikes sprouted from his arms.

As usual, this caught the Brotherhood's attention.

"Tell your friends to stay out of this," Lance growled at Kitty.

"Then tell yours to!" Kitty was standing towards the center of the gymnasium with her arms crossed, a scowl on her face.

Lance waved a hand at Blob and Toad. "Take care of those goody-two-shoes would you? And don't get tricked into attacking each other this time." Lance rolled his eyes.

Blob and Toad scowled, but turned on Kurt and Evan anyway.

Just as they'd intended.

Toad's tongue shot out at Kurt, but with a bamf and cloud of sulfur-scented smoke, Kurt was ten feet to the left. Blob charged at Evan, who turned and ran. Blob roared with anger, but pursued. Toad leapt into the air, several feet higher than Kurt's head and Kurt teleported backwards another ten feet, close to the entrance. Toad landed where Kurt had been and shot his tongue at Kurt. This time, Kurt grabbed Toad's tongue and yanked, pulling him several feet forward until he fell flat on his face. By this time, Evan had led Blob out of the building. Kurt turned, tongue in hand, and pulled Toad along with him. Toad struggled and with muffled words, swore at Kurt. When Kurt went as far as he could go in the hallway without turning. He let go of Toad's tongue and ducked towards the exit. Toad, on all fours, leapt after him. It didn't take long to get Toad out to the training field on the other side of the parking lot.

Kurt heard Evan holler. Blob had landed a hit.

Toad's tongue lashed around Kurt's ankle and pulled him off his feet. He crashed painfully to the ground. A second later Toad was above him. He teleported right before Toad's feet would have pounded into him. On his feet again, Kurt looked back towards where Evan and Blob were fighting. Even from this distance he could tell Blob was covered in gashes. But the mutant was still on his feet, angrily swinging his oversized fists at Evan, who, Kurt noted thankfully, was still standing as well.

Toad's tongue clocked him in the face and he saw stars. He should know better than to look away from Toad before he's been dealt with. He had just recovered his vision when a glob of Toad's slime flew at him. He had just enough time to dodge before it splattered the grass. As he turned his attention back to Toad, the slime hardened. Kurt had learned the hard way years ago that Toad's slime would solidify and glue you to where you were.

There was a thud as Kurt avoided a barrage of Toad's slime with a series of jumps and swerves. Several spikes went flying past Kurt towards Toad, who was equally agile at dodging.

"You're taking your time today," Evan grunted, shooting another array of spikes from his forearms.

Kurt glanced behind him and saw Blob laying on the ground.

"We better hurry this up, I think he collapsed from blood loss. He's probably going to need to go to the hospital."

Kurt sighed. "You shouldn't have gotten so carried away."

Toad launched another round of slime towards them. Evan dodged, but this time Kurt teleported behind Toad and caught him in a headlock. He held it until Toad passed out.

Kurt turned to Evan and opened his mouth to tell him to call the Professor but Evan cut him off.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll call the Professor about the Blob."
