Each day went like that: the two completing homework assignments in the library after dinner, and then Kurt applying salve and disappearing to his room shortly after. Sorin wouldn't see him again until dinner the next day.

When Sorin rolled out of bed to go get breakfast Saturday morning, a week later, he found a note taped to his bedroom door requesting his presence in Professor Xavier's office. It wasn't signed.

He was surprised to find the door to the Professor's office open. Sorin thought that a hardwood door that heavy would be difficult to prop open, and would most likely slam shut regardless of what you used to keep it open. But there it was.

Sorin saw the Professor at his desk, scribbling away at paperwork as he had been the last time.

"Professor?" Sorin called as he knocked on the door.

"Sorin, come in, come in." Sorin ventured into the room. "Have a seat."

"Is this about the holo-watch?" Sorin asked, hopeful. He was looking forward to having the option to turn off his appearance like Kurt could, at least to the eyes of people who wouldn't take kindly to his mutation. And while he wasn't particularly thrilled about returning to classes, if Kurt could manage a normal school experience with his holo-watch then so could Sorin. With that hiding his feline features, Sorin was looking forward to having a fresh start at a new school. Maybe making some new friends.

"Yes." The Professor smiled warmly. "I have it completed, except for a few minute alterations which require your presence. We shall go finish that in a moment. First, I wanted to give you a copy of these." The Professor hands Sorin a packet of papers.

"What are these?" Sorin asked as he took the papers from the Professor. But on leafing through them quickly Sorin realized what they were.

"These are copies of the custody release paperwork, guardian paperwork, and records of your birth and health information to date. Things you'll need in the future when you no longer need a legal guardian."

"It's done?"

"You are officially a ward of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Students."

"Thank you." Sorin's not sure if he's smiling or not, because his feelings are conflicted. On one hand he's happy to get away from that house and on the other he feels like an officially unwanted person.

"You'll fit in here, with people who have special abilities that others don't understand or accept. Just know that you're always welcome here." The Professor smiles at him. And before Sorin can formulate a response, the Professor says, "Let's go finish that holo-watch, shall we?" and pushes his chair back from the desk.

Sorin follows the Professor down the secret passageway to his laboratory. Professor Xavier looks around a moment and then guides his amped-up, automatic wheelchair over to a work table.

"Here it is." The Professor picks the item up off the counter and turns his chair to hand it to Sorin.

Sorin takes it, sets it on his wrist, and attaches the latches to keep it in place. The ability to appear normal to everyone's unknowing eyes given to him as a small gadget that attaches to him: Sorin is speechless.
