nerve // the story so far
it was the following day, luke was stuffing and taking things out from his locker when calum stood beside him.
"hey buddy, how was your first day?"
"it was alright, could've been better" luke shrugged.
"why? what happened?"
as if on cue, michael walked through the doors with jason beside him.
calum saw the way luke was cautiously staring at them, "what did they do to you?"
"they just crowded me after school, that's all"
"are you sure that's all?"
luke replayed what had happened yesterday in his head, and simply nodded.
calum let out a sigh and nodded as well, "alright, i'm trusting you on this"
luke closed his locker and started walking with calum to their class. they say in there seats, waiting for their lecture to start.
"stay away from them alright luke?"
"they came on to me, i never went up to them"
"i know, but still. i don't trust those guys one bit and i don't want them starting any kind of trouble with you"
"why do you care so much? we've only known each other for a day" luke scoffed.
"because you're the new kid, i must take you under my wing and show you the ways of west field high" he said putting his arm around luke's broad shoulders.
he simply laughed and nodded.
"i'm being serious though, stay away from them luke, unless you're looking for trouble. especially michael. i've heard terrible things about him and i'd hate to see you get sucked into that"
luke turned to calum, curious about what bad things had been said about michael.
"what have you heard?"
"bad, bad things luke. it's not my place to tell you"
the teacher walked in and the boys remained quiet for the rest of the period.

the rest of the day was the same old same old. luke had to walk to the bus stop, being that his mom was called back into work for a business meeting. luke dreaded walking.
what luke did like though, was the scenery he walked through. he liked observing people. people in situations, people just minding their own business. just people's reactions in general and how they behave in public. how people's lives were. there were so many people he passed by and wondered where they were going, if they were happy, depressed, anything. he was just a very curious boy.
as he was walking he smelled something bitter, something he hated. cigarettes.
he cringed at the thought of someone inhaling the smoke. he hated it. everything about it.
he wondered where it was coming from, he looked around. not spotting the culprit. then his eyes laid on a familiar blonde haired boy. he was leaning against the bus stop pole, inhaling and exhaling the horrid smoke up into the air.
luke wasn't going to lie, michael looked fucking hot.
he quickly shook his head, ridding the thoughts from his mind and walked up to him.
michael looked at luke, he couldn't help but get a little nervous around the innocent boy, or so he thought he was innocent.
he raised his eyebrow at luke as he stood in front of him, giving him a 'what do you want' face.
"you know those things kill you slowly, right?" luke stared at the bad boy.
michael shrugged, "it won't kill me completely by the end of the day, will it?"
"well. no, but–"
"exactly, so mind your own business and keep watching for the bus"
luke scoffed and looked down the street, secretly hoping that the bus came in the next five seconds.
a thought interrupted luke's mind and suddenly, he was talking to michael again.
"don't you have a car?"
"don't you?" michael mimicked.
"no, my mom drives me"
michael laughed slightly, "that's pretty lame"
"don't make fun of me, what happened to your car?"
he took a drag of his cigarette and blew it out away from luke's area. "i was drunk last night and i hit a fire extinguisher"
"driving drunk and smoking cigarettes? you live a hard life clifford"
"is that supposed to be sarcastic"
"i don't know, is it?"
the two boys laughed. michael liked this side of luke.
"don't give me your sass hemmings, or i'll call jason over here"
suddenly luke's smile turned into a frown. michael noticed his sudden change and furrowed his eyebrows. "hey, i was kidding"
luke sighed, "i know, it's just- i really don't like him"
"no one does" michael laughed.
"then why do you hang out with him?"
"i feel bad for the guy, i don't know. plus he has really good weed connects" michael shrugged.
"wow, you have feelings" the blue-eyed blonde laughed.
"trust me, i don't have feelings" michael said looking at luke, dead in the eye.
luke simply looked back at michael, barely muffling out the words enough for michael to hear, "i beg to differ".
with that, the bus came and luke got in, leaving michael alone. with thoughts of what he just said.
