Chapter 19. The Plan 2.0

"Are you sure your plan's going to work?" I asked Anna as I shifted my weight. Actually, she hasn't told me what her plan was. I was just checking.

"I hope so," she answered.

I frowned asking her, "You hope so?"

"Well, I'm not really sure if the fate will be on my side," she said trying to calm me while I start to get uneasy. "I'll tell you all about it tonight and as for your own task, you take care of my brother, okay? Don't leave his side – that's all I'm asking," she said.

"Don't leave his side?" I asked in clarification. "Like ever?"

She nodded. "Well, as much as possible, don't. Deal?"

"Remind me why we are doing this again..." I said hopelessly. I felt like this was overacting. So what if Alex liked me? So what if he didn't?

"We're doing this to satisfy your curiosity," she complied.

Damn, why does curiosity always have to kill the cat? I groaned. "Fine. Just...just...don't make it obvious that I took part in this, get it?" I instructed. I cannot accept it if ever Alex learns that I'm part of this in any way. Oh, just imagine his teasing eyes... I should probably die by then.

"I'll try my very best," she assured.

After we talked, we went to our separate ways. I went to look for Brian while Anna looked for Alex. Well, I was hoping she doesn't find him. Or if she does, I hoped she carry her plan out well. And bring me some good news – whatever that is.

SUMMER ESCAPADE

I sighed as I took a seat. I was not regretting that I did this job, I was glad that I can do this without my parents, in fact. Just one of my goals: to live independently. I can prove to myself that I can survive without my parent's financial support. Besides, I'd been earning my own money for a while now. Even before we got here. But this one's different as I was working full time.

I saw Anna coming my way when I just finished dealing with few guests on the pool and decided to take a rest in a nearby hut. It seems like she really had some business to do with me. By the looks of her, she was a bit nervous. But when she finally smiled at me, it vanished away. What now?

"Uhm hi. I was just wondering if I could have few of your minutes," she finally started. And I eyed her wondering what's this all about?

I didn't have anything against her, don't get me wrong. Well, if there was, it might be because she's Brian's sister. But that would be too shallow. Anyway, she's fine. She must be – looking at how she and Jaz fell into friendship that easy. Knowing Jaz...

"I don't have much time," I replied. It's true, I still have work to do and this was my only time to rest.

"Just few minutes will do," she insisted.

I studied her. "What do you want?" I asked.

She fidgeted and sat across from me. "Well, you see...Jaz and I decided to get to know each other better." My eyebrow shot up. What did it have to do with me? Just get to the point. "And then the thing is I have to ask several questions from you about her."

"Why me?" I asked the question finally materializing.

"Because you're her only friend here who knows her that much?" she told me. Yep, that was a question.

"Why don't you ask her instead?" That's what I meant.

"It's our deal not to ask each other about us." What were these two up to?
