Chase POV

I struggled against Adam's grasp as he walked into the living room, my body strewn over his shoulder. "Adam, stop!"

He sighed, coming to a stop. "I told you, my weight set broke and I need you to be my barbell." I gave him a look, shaking my head and pursing my lips to stop myself from uttering a few inappropriate words. "And please, don't scream this time, it's distracting."

I almost breathed a sigh of relief when Mr. Davenport walked through the door. I would've jumped for joy, but...you know. "Adam, put him down. That's how people get hurt."

"Hmm, good point. I should probably stretch first."

I grunted in pain as Adam flung me towards the floor, resulting in my body aching and throbbing. I muttered curses under my breath as he walked away, unfazed. With my jaw clenched, I jumped up and faced Mr. Davenport. "Man, I'm so tired of him. So far this week I've been his weight set, his football and his jump rope."

"On the bright side you've never looked more fit." He smiled and patted my arm.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "I'm serious. He's always using his strength to make my life miserable."

"Why don't you get even?"

I spun around to face Douglas, unaware that he had been there the whole time. "How? None of my abilities compete with his strength. And it's hard to torture him with brain teaser when he doesn't have a brain."

"Maybe I can unlock a new ability." He suggested, causing my eyes to light up with excitement. "Give you something you've never had before, the upper hand."

"Yes! Let's do it." If unlocking a new ability meant finally beating Adam, then I was all for it.

Mr. Davenport rushed to Douglas' side, denying my request. "No, let's not. Absolutely finito. Forget it."

"Why not?" Douglas questioned. I nodded in agreement.

"Because I said so. You live under my roof, you play by my rules. End of discussion." Mr. Davenport left the room before Douglas and I could even protest, much to my displeasure. But I couldn't help but chuckle as he mocked Mr. Davenport, only to stop when he got caught.

I concluded that Adam had finished his stretching, due to the fact that he had returned. "All right, Chase, my hammies are loose. I'm ready for round two."

"Ah, ah, ah, Mr. Davenport said you can't bench press me anymore." I told him, grinning.

Surprisingly, he grinned as well. "Yeah, but he didn't say anything about you being my shot-put. Come on, let's go for gold!"

Already knowing where this was headed, I booked it out of the room and ran down to the lab where I knew Alex was. She was sleeping peacefully in her capsule, something she hadn't been able to do since she first got her own capsule. She was able to get away with sleeping in her bed for a  few weeks, but it was only a matter of time before she would start glitching. There were nights where she would be up all night, unable to sleep, causing her to practically be a zombie all day. But as the days went on, she was slowly getting used to sleeping standing up. I pretended not to notice the nights where she woke up in middle of the night, murmuring how much she hated sleeping in her capsule. As much as she hated it, I knew she was grateful.

If it weren't for her bionics, she would be dead.

I hesitantly knocked on her capsule, slightly guilty for wanting to wake her up. I knew her sleep was important, but I needed to talk to her. Her eyes fluttered open, connecting with mine once she saw it was me who woke her up. I gave her a sheepish smile and motioned for her to come out, mentally praying that she wouldn't geo leap me into a volcano. I loved Alex, but she was extremely grumpy and cranky when woken up.
