"Alex wake up," his mother yelled to him as he faintly groaned and rolled out of bed. He went downstairs in his tiny home on the outskirts of Athens, Georgia.
"Hurry up or you're gonna be late," his stepfather yelled at him as he walked into the kitchen. His father had left his mother before his birth, and his stepfather was a drunk but worked just enough to sustain the family of three.
Alex was tired of hearing this every morning so he tuned out his stepfather and ate breakfast. He then ran up the stairs and got dressed and brushed his teeth.
"I'm going to Connor's house after school," he yelled as he ran out the door.
"You better be home before dark! You remember what happened last time!" His stepfather reminded him of the beating that he gave him that left him with bruises all over his body and glass shards in his head from where he hit him with a bottle.
"Over my dead body," he mumbled under his breath getting in his black '67 mustang with a double racing strip that was white. He started up the car and started driving towards school.
The school was about a 10 minute drive and on the way he had to pick up Jessica, which turned it into a 15 minute drive. He pulled into her driveway as usual and groaned at the fact the he knew she wanted to keep him in the friend zone.
"Hey Jess," he said as she got in and put on her seatbelt.
"Hey Alex," she said in her usual quiet and calm voice. He then pulled out of the driveway and started to drive towards the school.
"Do you have everyth-" he was cut off by the sound of his best friend calling his name from the next lane over.
"Just make out already!" Conner yelled from his old pickup truck as he rolled the window down.
"It's more action than you could ever get," Jess yelled to him. "Yes I have everything, and hey don't get angry or I won't sit with you at lunch," she teased.
"Whatever," he said as he shut up and kept driving and went into his shell. She was one of the few people that could understand Alex, for her father had left her at birth.
They arrived at school and he let her out at the front of the school as he went and parked. He got all of his items together but he started to see a mist appear on the inside of the car. He wiped at it frantically but it wouldn't leave.
"Do not worry young child, you may not know it yet but you possess great powers. I am Iapetus, Titan of lifespan. You're time is not up but I have come to tell you that a dark time is approaching and you and others like you will have to fight back against an evil you may think is bigger than you. I warn you that if you are not careful we will be seeing each other soon."
Alex had studied the Greek Titans last summer for fun and knew all about Iapetus but didn't know he could perform this.
"What's so special about me? I'm just a nobody with anger issues," he claimed as the mist disappeared. "Wait! I have questions!" he pleaded but the mist never came back. He didn't know that the day that the evil would arrive would be that day.
He got out of his car and shook his head as he walked up to the front of the school.
"What took you so long?" Conner had asked him.
"I had to clear my head," he said trying to avoid the question.
They walked in and the principal waved as he does every morning. They were the group of outcasts but were still known. He got to the gym and he saw Mr. Jeckleson, the one teacher that knew how to get on his bad side.
Mr. Jeckleson was a short and chubby man with no hair but a big ego. He saw Alex, or Phear boy as he called him, and gave a look of disgust. He walked over to him.
"Can I see you in the hallway?" Jeckleson asked Alex.
"Sure," Alex replied as calmly as he could.
The two walked into the hallway and Jeckleson started to lecture him and then stopped suddenly.
"W-what in gods name is that?!?!" He yelled as he ran in the other direction.
Alex turned around only to see darkness start creeping onto the lockers and the ceiling, however the lights weren't out. A being of some sort appeared in the center but he couldn't see what it was. It pulled a giant axe out of nowhere and stared him down as the darkness kept closing in closer to him. He knew that the mist wasn't kidding when he said something evil was coming, and this was one of many things to come after Alex.
