Camila was in her garage setting up four stools and microphone stands in front of each one. The girls should be arriving soon and she had pancakes prepared to keep them going for the next few hours. Waffles for Ally as well.
She sat down sighing, remembering the lyrics Lauren sang last night. It overwhelmed her to the point that she had them playing in her head on repeat all day. No matter how hard she studied she couldn't get rid of the girl's figure belting out that melodic tune and playing that electric guitar, out of her head.
The voicemail she left in Lauren's phone also made appearances in her thoughts and she realised after a while that she hadn't even said what Dinah and the girl's told her to. She was thankful though, because they would keep her distracted from thinking about Lauren for the rest of the afternoon.
She looked up in the street and noticed a car pull up, all three girls piling out of it. Ally got out of the drivers side and waved at her, Camila sending a tentative wave back. They entered the garage and instantly noted the smell of heaven.
Ally was the first to squeal in delight, rushing over to the plate of waffles and scoffing down two in record time.
"Girl I don't know why you have pancakes when it's almost dinner time," Dinah chewed on one, "but I ain't complaining."
"Same," Normani mumbled, her mouth full. Camila chuckled and adjusted her microphone. Ally sat down holding a waffle in her hand and placed it in her mouth while she adjusted her own mic so that it came down to mouth level.
When the other two girls joined them, Camila hit play on her iPod which was connected to speakers and a bass guitar strummed loudly.
Then suddenly a car door slammed and Lauren stepped out, approaching them all in Camila's garage.
"Shit," she exasperated, "am I interrupting a jam session?"
Camila hit pause on her iPod and stood up. "You are actually so could you leave," she stated rather than asked.
Dinah sent Ally and Normani a weird look, before facing a blushing Camila. "Mila I thought you invited her?"
Camila's throat became dry as Lauren folded her arms and sent her an inquisitive look. Camila shook her head and sat back down, avoiding eye contact with everyone.
"Just get out Lauren," she murmured. Lauren popped her lips together and grabbed a spare stool from the side of the garage. She sat down and stared expectantly at the girl's, her eyebrows raised.
"No I'm okay, I'll wait until you're done."
Dinah opened her mouth to speak but Camila cut her off. "Just ignore her." The three girls shared a frown but stayed quiet and Camila pressed play on her iPod again.
Normani sang first, her voice low and heavy.
Same words
Same thirst
Just a different name
Same jokes
Same laugh
Guess that's just your game
You got at her the same way you got at me
You showed me everything I need to see
Camila's voice then rang through the garage and Lauren was instantly captivated.
Even though you're so damn fine
I know I'm better off without you
Even if you cross my mind
I would always have to doubt you
