Lauren and Camila had spent an hour and a half writing their song together. They were trying to create a bridge, but weren't agreeing on one single word in the first line.
"Strange!" Lauren shouted.
"Lame sounds way better!" Camila retorted.
Lauren grimaced. "That's such bull — Look we've been fighting over this for fifteen minutes. Let's just rock, paper, scissors and sort it out."
"Prepare to be crushed," Camila spoke in an airy but strong voice, her mouth pinching together together as their fists met between their bodies.
They motioned their fists three times and Lauren's paper beat Camila's rock.
"Sorry but I beat you," Lauren said with faux sadness in her tone. She crossed out the word lame and wrote down strange, then began singing the words to herself. "It's so strange how the same thing..." She trailed off, asking Camila for guidance.
"Um," Camila's eyes wondered around the room as though the answer would be among Lauren's belongings. "Uhhh," she sang, facing Lauren again. "I got nothin'."
Lauren tapped her pen furiously against the paper, trying to find inspiration somewhere in her mind.
Camila did the same. The only thing, or person, in her thoughts was Lauren though. So Camila had no choice but to base the next lyrics around her.
She thought back to Lauren's songs about her. What did Lauren make her feel? She made her feel...right...but still brought her pain. "Oh!" Camila grabbed the pen and paper off Lauren and wrote her lyrics down. Lauren eyed the words curiously, then turned to Camila, who sang softly to herself.
"It's so strange how the same thing, can make you feel so right and bring you so much pain..."
Lauren nodded her head, sentences running through her mind, inspiring her. "It's so strange how the same face can make you love until it hurts..."
Once they finished the entire song, Lauren flattened out the slightly crumpled piece of paper and placed it in front of them.
"I can't believe we just came up with all of that," Camila said in disbelief.
"Pretty cool huh?" Lauren grinned. She rested her hands behind her and leant back, uncrossing her legs and stretching out. Camila glanced momentarily at the girls bare thighs, then turned away and began playing with the bow tied around the bottom of her plait.
They fell into silence, not sure if they should go check on their friends downstairs or practice the song. They had the entire day to practice, but obviously Lauren would want to study as well, so Camila would have to find something else to do.
Lauren was about to offer Camila a drink when the shorter girl spoke.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Course," Lauren replied softly.
"Who were those girls with you at the bar a while ago? They were in the back room with you and I—I'm not jealous I was just curious." Camila stammered, still staring at the bow in her hair.
"Uh," Lauren narrowed her eyes, trying to remember that night. She was tipsy but not drunk and had no intention of sleeping with any of those girls. They just wanted to know what it was like to be around a musician and Lauren was the only local talent they could find. "They were just fans, they wanted to buy me a drink and we ended up having a little party but nothing happened." Lauren noticed Camila's breaths were faint. "I haven't been with anyone...kissed anyone...since I kissed you last."
Camila finally raised her head and stared at Lauren. "Same."
Lauren nodded, internally cheering. "I should go check on the girls downstairs."
