Katherine's POV
After the annoying waitress leaves Nicholas doesn't take his eyes off me. I was nervous with anticipation as his heated gaze measures me up across the table, it didn't help calm my nerves. He looks handsome in his expensive suit. It fits perfectly over his hard body as if it was made for him. It probably was.
When I couldn't take his eyes looking at me any longer I stared at the wall behind his head. Waiting for our food to be bought out so I can focus on it instead. I think Nicholas can't rile me up any further, but he does.
"I didn't know I was yours Kitten."
There goes that pet name again. I kind of like it. But that's not important right now. He heard me? Nicholas heard what I said that to Meredith. Sh*t.
I couldn't even meet his eyes. He probably thinks I'm overstepping by saying that, since we aren't even together. This dinner is for him to explain how we know each other. Not a date.
"Look at me Katherine."
For some reason my body listens to him. When my eyes found his pair of green orbs I found an intense look of hunger in there depts. Like he could eat me.
"Here is the salmon."
The waiter places my plate down interrupting our frenzied gaze. He sets down the steak for Nicholas. My food looks mouthwatering but I'm not paying it any mind because Nicholas Is all I can focus on. He's more delicious.
I start eating before I do something I shouldn't. We eat in silence one that's surprisingly comfortable even though we're strangers. Somehow it doesn't feel awkward eating with him. Weird?
Having a meal with someone is very intamate. But with Nicholas even though I don't fully trust him, it doesn't feel any different than if I was eating with a friend.
Even my thoughts are at peace, almost as if being with Nicholas is something I'm used to. Which is astonishing since we've just met. Hopefully when he explains, it will make sense. Most people wouldn't feel this comfortable with their Stalker.
Maybe there is something wrong with me? Probably Stockholm syndrome.
Soon we're having the last bite then wiping our mouths with napkins. Nicholas stares me down as I put on some chapstick from my clutch. I watch him as well because I'm intrigued by the tranquility I feel while next to him.
Suddenly without warning he begins.
"Fifteen years ago I moved to California. Before I moved we lived next door to each other. We were, and still are, best friends. Katherine I met you in first grade."
I heard what he said but my brain doesn't conjure up memories to support his explanation. Why? I have no idea. Nicholas continues.
"We went to elementary school and graduated together. A few weeks after my parents got a divorce so me and my mom moved. Katherine does any of this ring a bell?"
Nope. Nada. While I try to picture images of the past he described nothing rings a bell. It's not that I don't believe him but something didn't add up. I don't remember these memories of Nicholas and I?
