*****Rachel's POV*****
It had been just a few days since Niall had called me. I didn't answer fearful of what he would say, 'I'm glad we moved on from each other' 'I found someone who makes me happy'. If I was to hear those words I would just completely fall apart, which is also why I refused to open the voicemail. I couldn't muster up the courage it took to just hear it the message that could make me or break me. I wanted to hear his soothing voice so badly, the voice I hadn't heard in two weeks time, but I couldn't do it. I couldn't deal with the possible pain it would bring, the hurt I would feel, I just couldn't.
I was sitting in my new dorm room unpacking my things, just praying that I wouldn't have to have a roommate, or if I had to have one, at least a normal one. I had almost finished my last bag when there was a knock on the door, I went over to the door and turned the brass nob to be face to face with a smiley girl with short brown hair and carrying seven different bags.
"Hi!" she exclaimed perkily, her happiness brought a brief smile to my face. "Are you Rachel?"
"Yep."
"I'm Emily, I'm your new roommate!" she said her bright hazel eyes dancing with happiness.
"Nice to meet you do you need any help with your bags?" I asked noticing her fumbling around with them, and dropping her room key.
"Yessss pleaseeee." she groaned.
After I got to know Emily, she really wasn't that bad at all. She had the same happiness radiating off her like Denayah did, but no where near the same sarcasm that I missed. She was very nice though and we had a lot in common. It seemed she would probably be the best roommate I could have hoped for.
Once she had finished unpacking it was near nine, I figured I should started to get ready for my job and headed to the bathroom to take a quick shower. I changed to dark ripped jeans and a nice grey long sleeved top, ran a brush through my hair allowing it to slightly curl naturally, and then applied light make-up. I walked out of the bathroom to be face to face with a widen eye Emily.
"Where ya going roomie?" she asked sitting down on her bed and starring at me in curiosity.
"My job, I sing at a bar downtown." I said while grabbing my bag and filling it with my phone, keys and other things I would need.
"Oh, that's so cool! Maybe I could see you sing sometime." she smiled reaching for her phone off the side table.
"That would be fun, I gotta go now, see ya later." I waved walking out the door and towards the student parking lot.
I made my way to the bar and entered through the back door of the building to be greet by Drew and a few other guys with instruments. I had done this a few times before now so I already knew that since everyone was back here we would be going on soon. I dropped my bag on a chair and grabbed a microphone as Drew did the same. He was a bass player and the rest of his friends were acquainted with their instruments as well. They were all great musicians, there was no question about that.
We followed from the back to the smallish stage and finished setting up as Drew spoke various things into the microphone. And after a few moments we began to play, music could be heard throughout the bar, and everyone was enjoying it. And I felt the same rush I had felt playing at Josh's party, but this rush seemed to lack something. I brushed it off and continued with the constant stream of songs.
We were nearing the end when one of my ultimate favorite songs began to sound from the instruments behind me. Here Without You by 3 Doors Down, the lyrics came along and I sang along with the rhythm:
