“What exactly is it that you are wanting Mrs Wright?”

The voice was kindly but firm and Angelique felt more confident and sure of herself now.

“Well. Erm… You see, it’s like this. I need papers and money in this country. I can’t rely on Richard’s family for food and clothes, especially with this rationing thing, I need my own food and clothes ration card. Also

I know that you have given my friends here various jobs and well I guess I was wondering if you could also do the same for me because I don’t want to sit around and do nothing just because I am no longer in France.”

Angelique took a deep breath once she had finished and looked hopefully at the kindly man.

Well, I am not sure what job you can do. Monsieur Claes has informed me that you are in fact with child so that obviously limits your career choices.”

Angelique hugged her best friend close and smiled.

“I have really missed you too, and Michel and all of the others. It’s not the same not seeing you all every day. Living with the Wrights is certainly an experience and as for how did they take it well they seem to have taken control of their grief a bit now but originally is mother called me a ‘Hussy’ and told me to get out. She has calmed down with that a little now, but there is a problem in that Richard’s brother Jack reminds me so much of Richard that it’s hard.”

Fabienne stroked Angelique’s hand and Michel walked over and put his arm around his girlfriend’s shoulders. Angelique couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy towards Fabienne, she was so happy and she still had her love.

“You two are so lucky to have each other. I wish I had someone but since Richard died, I have been on my own.”

Fabienne smiled,
