"Niall. Niall. Niall. Niall. Ni-"

"What, Megan?" I sighed, "Can't you see I'm trying to stare blankly out the window?"

"Yes, I can see that," she replied. "But seriously, Niall, you have to talk to Maddie. She's locked herself in her room for some reason and won't even let Riley in, and they share the room."

"Why can't you talk to her?" I asked as I stood up, "You are her sister, you know. You should be able to talk to her."

"She won't let me in," Megan said, "Please, Niall, she won't talk to anyone or let them in. Maybe she'll let you, though, you're the only one besides Louis that hasn't tried."

"Fine, I'll try," I said. I leaped up the steps and maneuvered towards Maddie's room. I stood outside, silently, for a moment before knocking. There was the sound of footsteps, and well as a large BANG on the door.

"Who is it?" she called, sounding angry.

"Niall!" I replied, nervously.

"Go away!"

"I'm not leaving until you talk, Maddie. It's important to everyone. Just let me in, okay? I'll leave in ten minutes."

"Five," she replied. I sighed, at least she was negotiating.

"Five," I agreed. She unlocked the door and pulled me in. I could see that her face was stained with tears.

"Woah, Maddie, what's wrong?" I asked, concerned.

She groaned in reply, leaping onto her bed, lying on her stomach. "Nothing's wrong. I'm fine, alright?" Her voice contrasted her words, as they cracked with sadness and held deep sorrow. Wait, did I just think that? Whatever; my point is that she did not sound like she was fine, not in the least bit.

"You're lying, Maddie," I said, taking a seat on her bed. "I know you're not fine. Just tell me what's wrong. Please? I promise that I won't tell anyone else."

"You promise?" she asked.

"Yes, I promise," I swore. "Now, just tell me what's wrong, alright? Then we'll go out for ice cream."

"I do like ice cream."

"I know you do, you scarfed down all of ours on your second day here," I replied.

"Oh my goodness," she groaned. "Okay, now, if I tell you, we will go out for ice cream, right?"

"I see that you want me to treat you like a little child. But yes, we will go out for ice cream. Just tell me what's wrong, and it'll all be alright."

"Today would've been my mother's birthday had she not . . . passed. My dad is probably a wreck, and I can't even help him. I know he has my brothers, but that's not very helpful, because they are emotionless brats. Riley and Megan don't seem much better, they aren't even reacting, it's as if they don't even remember what happened to her," she said, almost too fast for me to understand. I was stunned. She smiled sadly, one that I knew wasn't real.

I pulled her into a hug. "It's alright if you cry, you know. Just for a few minutes, then we can go for ice cream."

"And a movie," she added. "I want to go see that one movie where this one fish gets lost and then his dad and this blue fish have to find him."

"Finding Nemo? Why do you want to watch that?"

"Because it's funny! Would you rather we watched Harry sleep?"

"That's always fun," I replied, grinning.

"We are not watching my cousin sleep, Harry. That's just creepy. Come on, dude, I want that stinking ice cream."

*~Maddie~*

The movie was nice, several times did I have to burrow into Niall's shoulder due to the fact that it was either seriously sad or frightening. Each time, Niall laughed softly, saying "It's not that sad," or "Come on, Maddie, this isn't scary," and each time I punched his arm, and he would mess up his face in mock pain.

The ice cream was great though. It was a really, really warm day, so the place was packed. Instead of eating there, we went to the park to get some fresh air, and get away from the huge crowds of people. We sat by the pond, and watched the ducks swim around.

"It's too quiet here," Niall complained. "Hmm. How can we fix that?

"We could alw- Niall!" I screamed as he literally threw his remaining ice cream at me. "What was that for!"

"Your scream made the park nice and lively. Do it again, please."

"Niall!" I groaned, throwing my ice cream now, at his face. Meanwhile I was trying to get his out of my clothes.

"That's so cold!" he gasped, laughing. "Maddie, I'm gonna get you for that!"

"Yeah?" I replied, giggling uncontrollably.

"Oh, yeah," he said, laughing as well. He tackled me, pinning me to the ground.

"That's not fair! I didn't know you were going to do that!"

"That's why it was a surprise!" he said.

"Well, then I don't like surprises!"

"You do to like surprises," Niall argued, keeping me pinned to the ground as I struggled to remove myself from beneath him.

"How are you so heavy? You look lighter than I do!"

"I'm not heavy, you're just weak," he answered. I stuck my tongue out at him and continued to struggle.

"Come on, Niall, it's about time we went out. It's getting dark out!"

"It's not even dusk!" he objected.

"Niall," I sighed. "If we don't get home, you are not getting supper."

"Fine, we'll go home."

*~Niall~*

I did not want to go home, but Maddie made me. I just can't believe she threatened for no supper! What is she trying to do, starve me to death? Seriously, I need at least three meals a day, preferably four. Doesn't everyone? I mean, she needs that to, so she should seriously stop with the whole telling me I won't get to eat thing. It's sort of getting irritating, but I can live with it.

After we got home, she went back to her room. She didn't lock the door, and she was smiling, so I suppose she was in a lot better of a mood than this morning. Riley was actually able to get into the room, so that's good. She did come down to eat, but then she went back to her room. I wonder if something else is bugging her? Did I do something wrong?

Something's been bugging me too, but I just can't figure it out. I had a great time, so it can't be anything from our little outing, right? Maybe . . .
