No one said a word for a solid five minutes after Eleanor declined the chocolate that had been offered. Her eyes were fixated on Remus Lupin, her former professor, and recently discovered biological father. All the excitement she had felt initially quickly turned into confusion and panic, leaving Eleanor speechless. It seemed both adults were waiting on her to say something first, with Margaret practically pulling at the end of her curls, full of nerves. Eleanor didn't know what to do, let alone what to say. It wasn't like the man standing before her was a stranger, she had been around him for the majority of her fifth year.

"This doesn't make sense," she whispered finally, "how could it be you?"

"Eleanor, if I could explain- "

"When did you figure it out?"

Remus glanced over in Margaret's direction before he let out a heavy sigh. "Not too long ago, if I'm being completely honest with you. For most of the term, you were just one of my students, but throughout the year, you constantly reminded me of someone I knew, but I couldn't quite place who it was. It wasn't until about a month or so ago, that I finally made the connection, and of course, I had to confirm that I was right by getting into contact with your mother."

Curiosity got the best of Eleanor during the moment as she peered up at him. "Who do I remind you of?"

There was a softness to his smile, but a sense of sadness to his eyes as he answered. "My mother. You very much remind me of my mother Hope. You're so much like her, with the knitting and how you talk and handle yourself. But you look just like her too. It didn't register with me sooner because I only thought about how my mother looked near the end when she was sick. She didn't look much like usual self by then. Her illness took such a toll on her."

As much as she wanted to be sympathetic during such a time, especially when it came to learning about her late grandmother, Eleanor found her head practically spinning with everything. She managed to make her way over to the kitchen table, sitting herself down with a slight shake of her head.

"But why didn't you say anything to me while we were back at the castle? We spoke in your office when you were telling me about your resignation, why didn't you tell me this back then?"

"I didn't think it was the proper time, Eleanor," Remus told her. "There was already a lot going on at the time. Think about everything you had just learned in a short period of time; it didn't seem appropriate to spring it on you that I was your father."

"So, you thought showing up to my house as a surprise would be the best way to go about it?"

"I wasn't really sure what to do. A letter seemed a bit too informal and after discussing it over with your mother, she thought it would be best to speak with you as soon as you came home."

Looking over her shoulder in the direction of her mother, Eleanor could see that Margaret was on the verge of tears but had yet to say anything. She turned her attention back to Remus, suddenly feeling a surge of anger race through her body, although she wasn't sure who she was angry with.
