Heavily anticipated by many, the announcement of Apparating lessons arrived, asking qualifying students to get their payment of twelve galleons ready and prepare for the next twelve weeks of lessons. Of course, the exam date itself happened to be in the middle of April, leaving Eleanor and a couple of other students unable to take it when it was offered at the school. However, Fred and George were thrilled since their birthday would fall at the beginning of that month, allowing them to take it early.

"I remember when Charlie first took his exam," Fred told Eleanor as they arrived in the Great Hall for their first class, "ended up five kilometres south from where he was supposed to go. And not only that, but he also landed on some old muggle woman doing her shopping. Anora couldn't breathe because she was laughing so hard, I don't think she's ever let him live it down."

Eleanor stifled a laugh but suddenly felt nervous about her own attempts. She had already heard horror stories about splinching when people were learning to apparate or even skilled witches and wizards doing so by accident. But she had never taken into account the possibility of landing on someone.

Upon entering the Great Hall, everyone could see that the tables had been moved aside, along with the benches, providing plenty of room in the middle. Standing in the centre, was a rather frail-looking man, that was topped with wispy silver hair and extremely pale skin. He didn't speak as the students entered but appeared to be scanning every single person that walked in. He wore robes donning the official emblem of the Ministry of Magic but looked to be practically drowning in the heavy fabric.

"Look at the Ministry of Magic trying to be inclusive and allowing skeletons to work for them," Marnie whispered to Eleanor, bringing her to clap her hands over her mouth to refrain from laughing out loud.

Once everyone was gathered and their payments were collected, the man walked over to where the majority of them were standing and introduced himself as Wilkie Twycross.

Right away, he began explaining the importance of focus and intention when it came to practising apparating, especially if one wanted to avoid having any accidents. He started discussing the Three Ds of Apparition: Destination, Determination, and Deliberation.

Almost immediately, Fred and George started coming up with their own variations of the Three D's, most of them they did not venture to say too loud at the risk of finding themselves in trouble, especially since Professor McGonagall made her way in and out to make sure that the Hogwarts students were behaving themselves.

No one really seemed to be paying any mind to Wilkie's lecture, all too eager to get started with the practice rather than standing around and talking about it. Several minutes later, Wilkie noticed that no one was listening and proceeded to conjure up plenty of wooden hoops that appeared on the floor. He instructed all of them to stand beside one of the hoops and visualise themselves appearing in the middle of it. They were to give themselves a little spin and appear inside the hoop, which sounded easy, but it definitely was a lot easier said than done.
