Just when Eleanor believed she had suffered enough embarrassment just that morning to last her a lifetime, being mistaken for her father's pregnant girlfriend nearly killed her. She couldn't help the nervous giggle that escaped from her while Remus appeared absolutely mortified. Quickly, Remus shook his head and waved his hand in a panic.
"No, Dad, this is my daughter," Remus pointed to her, "this is Eleanor."
Lyall didn't appear upset but rather confused as he continued to look at Eleanor, rather than his son. "You have a daughter? Since when?!"
"A little over sixteen years," Eleanor answered, "it's nice to meet you."
As any person would after being delivered such news in an abrupt manner, Lyall was clearly in disbelief, but it was incredibly hard for him to ignore the resemblance that Eleanor shared to his late wife. There were subtle differences that he picked up on the longer he looked, the girl before him being much taller than Hope and her hair was much longer than Hope had ever bothered to keep it. Her nose was shaped slightly different, a little narrower, but as Eleanor smiled at him, the way the corners of her eyes creased in just the slightest, it was like having Hope smile at him again.
A smile that he missed greatly over the years.
"How can this be, Remus?" Lyall questioned, finally tearing his gaze away from Eleanor and looking back at him. "Sixteen years and you're only mentioning it now? If haven't just recently adopted, you're telling me that biologically this is your child? How do you know?"
"Dad, I'll explain everything in due time, but for now, Ellie has been rather excited about meeting you. She wanted to come here and spend some time with you."
Remus seemed nervous that Lyall was about to lose his mind and tell them to get out or something of the sort. Even though Lyall was far from a man that would do such a thing, the longer the three of them stood in silence, Remus was unsure of how Lyall was going to take to the news of being a grandfather, especially since it had been so long since Remus had last visited, leaving their relationship somewhat strained over the years.
However, as Lyall took a step towards Eleanor, a smile finally formed as suddenly, pushed Remus aside and pulled her into a hug. Remus almost fell over as he lost balance from his father's sudden gesture, but he could only bring himself to laugh as Lyall appeared to be squeezing the life out of Eleanor.
"Oh! I can't believe it! I'm a grandfather!" he cried happily as Eleanor remained positively stunned in his arms. "And she took after our side of the family! I couldn't be happier. She's adorable but so grown up at the same time! I'd never thought I would see the day, Remus. A day where you announced I had a grandchild!"
"Thanks, Dad."
"But look, you made a beautiful young lady."
With the compliment of being called adorable and beautiful, Eleanor decided that she and her grandfather were going to get along just fine. She found the courage to wrap her arms around him in a hug, thankful that things were continuing to run smoothly. She didn't remember a lot about her maternal grandparents, but she couldn't recall ever having any good ones, not even something as simple as them holding her in a hug.
