Decklynn's P.o.V

Girls were off limits ever since I had gotten custody of Ryland. Any girl that I started to date would run off like the Boogie Monster was chasing after them once they met Ry. So I have no clue as to what possessed me to walk up to the stunning blonde that was in the hallway.

What I wasn't expecting was her to turn around right into me.

"Hello," I said, backing up a bit.

I looked down, as she was probably around 5'3'' and that was six inches shorter than my 5'9'' height. Her blonde curls disappeared into her gray beanie and her bright blue eyes were filled with worry.

What the hell is she scared about? I thought to myself.

"My name's Nolan." I offered. She started to chew on her bottom lip.

I nodded and felt Kelson walk up behind me.

"You figure out where the Physics room is yet?" He grumbled.

"Nope." I looked down at the blonde. She was looking at the ground but I could tell that she was still chewing on her lip.

"Do you know where Physics room is?"

She slowly looked up, still avoiding eye contact, but spoke.

"I-It's this way." She whispered.

When she started to walk I saw that everyone was staring at her, but one guy caught my attention. He was tall, but still shorter than me, and was surrounded by two other guys. I had a feeling that these were our targets. I nudged Kelson and tilted my head towards the three guys.

"H-Here you are." She said, breaking Kelson and I's silent conversation.

"What's your name?" I asked, not expecting an answer.

"Zoella R-Reese." Man, why did she talk so quietly?

I was just about to ask her why when she quickly ran into the room, grabbing a seat in the front and taking her notebook out. I didn't know why I was so drawn to Zoella. I had made a promise to myself that girls just got in the way of Ryland and I's relationship. But for some reason, my hate for high school was starting to fade and a new light was shining through.

I just didn't know why. But I did know who it was and I was finding another thing that I was scared about.

And that person was Zoella Reese. And I only have known her for about ten minutes.

I totally forgot how boring school was. In my year of being an Eliminator for the Agency, school had quickly slipped from my mind and I focused on the job and Ryland. Sure, being a legal killer had its perks. I got paid a lot - enough to support both Ry and me - and I also learned how to protect myself. But it came with a downside.

I was a killer.

It was that simple. The targets that I went after were simple. They walked out of a building, I shot them. They ordered food or a drink, I poisoned it. I didn't learn anything other than the person's name and the deadline. I was happy that I wasn't an Undercover. Their jobs were the hardest.

Kelson had told me what he does as an Undercover. They get to know the victims. You live their lives with them only to kill them. You understood how they acted, how they lived. You were told to go in there with no strings attached, but sometimes it was hard. You meet someone and then you have to kill them. They trust you, and then you betray them.
