Decklynn's P.o.V

I was supposed to go to school today, but I couldn't because Ryland came down with the flu. He woke me up around one in the morning, just two hours after I got home from the race, and told me that he felt sick. So, naturally, I walked him to the bathroom so that I could take his temperature.

102.5

He had a fever. Then he said that he felt like he was sick. So here I am now, making soup for my son.

"You feeling better Little Man?" I asked.

He shook his head. "No." He moaned. "I don't feel good." He rubbed his stomach.

"Do you feel like you're going to vomit?" I asked.

He nodded his head so I raced us to the bathroom where he proceeded to puke into the toilet. After a couple minutes of me rubbing his back, trying to make him feel better, he said that he didn't feel like he was going to vomit. We walked back out to the kitchen and I sat down next to Ryland, who was finally eating his soup and ate a grilled cheese that I made.

I looked up at the clock and saw that it was already three thirty in the afternoon. That was weird. Kelson is normally here by at least quarter past. I checked my phone to see if he had sent me a text but there was nothing. I shrugged it off and continued to eat.

"How's school going Buddy?" I asked Ryland. We had just finished eating and we were sitting down to watch Cars 2.

"Good. There's this new girl, her name is Lila." He said.

"Are you friends?"

"Yeah. She's really funny." He started to shiver so I pulled the blanket further up him.

"You cold?" I asked.

"Just a little." He yawned.

"Go to sleep Bud, I'll record the movie." He nodded and laid his head on my shoulder, falling asleep in no time. I grabbed the remote and pressed record then gently grabbed Ry. I slowly and quietly walked him up the stairs and placed him down on his bed before walking back downstairs.

It was just about four and Kelson still wasn't home. I was starting to get a little worried. Had our targets figured out why we were here? Dammit! Why couldn't I just be sent to eliminate them? It would have been so much easier. Then I thought about what I just said.

I just admitted that killing someone was easier than getting to know someone.

I froze. This can't be real... I was nineteen. I shouldn't have to kill people for a living. I needed to talk to someone about this. And there was only one person that would understand.

I dialed Kelson's number, waiting for him to answer.

"Hello?" He answered on the third ring, a little out of breath.

"Kelson, so nice of you to pick up." I tried saying sarcastically, but it came out a little weak. I was still fucked up after my little revelation.

"Dude, what's wrong?"

"I need to talk to you. It's about my sanity." I said.

"Okay."

I expected him to hang up and say that he was coming home now, but instead, he stayed on the line and I heard him talking to a girl.

"Look, Lucy -" The girl cut him off.

"It's Jane..." There was hurt in the girl's voice. Leave it to Kel to hook-up with someone on a mission.

"Whatever Lu - Jane - I need to go."

I could hear him trying to zip his pants up while still keeping his phone to his ear. From all the grunting you could hear, it was like he was still banging the girl, not putting his pants on.

"Dammit!" He whispered. "Lost my shirt. Whatever."

I laughed.

"Don't fucking laugh at me, man." He grumbled.

A few minutes later, he was walking out the door and if you listen closely, you could hear the girl, Jane, crying.

"There, I'm in the car. What did you want to talk about?" He asked seriously.

"It's better if we talk about it in private..."

"Okay man, don't do anything stupid."

I sighed. "I won't." Then I heard the click of him hanging up.

It was just a few moments later (Thanks, Mr. C from getting him that modified Audi R10) when I heard our garage door shut and Kelson bounding up the stairs. I frowned at him when he came up. All he did was shrug.

"Ryland is sleeping, ya know. He is sick." I said sternly.

"Sorry man." He shrugged again. "What was it about your sanity that made me lose a quick lay?" He paused again but started to mumble under his breath. "Better be good, she was hot."

I chose to ignore him. "It was what I thought." I started out.

"And what did you think?"

"Would you stop interrupting me?" I snapped.

"Sorry, continue."

"Okay, so I was thinking how it was already four and you hadn't checked in yet. Then I started to think that the targets had figured out that we were on to them. But here comes the shitty part... I thought that it would have just been easier to shoot and kill them to get to know them!" I practically yelled at him.

"I'm fucking nineteen Kelson! This shouldn't be a problem. I shouldn't have to worry if I'm turning into a killer because I thought that it would have been easier to kill them instead of getting to know them. What the fuck is wrong with me?" I asked, getting quieter and quieter by the end of my rant.

"Listen, Bro, I know how you feel. I was an Eliminator for the first couple of months of working at the Agency. But then I was assigned to Undercover. For the first couple of Missions, I was thinking just like you. 'Why can't we just kill them?' That was the questions that ran through my mind. Don't worry about it, though, okay? You're not gonna bat-shit crazy on me man. You got one person that's keeping you from that, and you know who that person is?" He asked.

"Who?"

"He goes by the name of Ryland Knight. And you love that kid way too much to become even close to a cold-blooded killer." Kelson said to me with conviction.

I nodded. "Thanks, man. Don't know what I'd do without you."

"Go to jail." He said without missing a beat.

I chuckled, about to say something back when I heard Ryland speak.

"Daddy, I don't feel good." He said, gripping his stomach.

"Let's go," I said, walking over to the stairs and bringing him to the bathroom.

Here we go again.
