Chapter Five
“I’m sorry, I had to do that. They made me,” a deep voice whispered as I stared in horror at the sharp knife puncturing my stomach. I coughed restrictedly, blood trickling out of my mouth. I cried out in excruciating pain as the knife was slowly pulled out of my stomach.
“Listen closely. If you survive this, there’s something you need to do. There’s a tracker in your neck that you need to get out. Also, find the prophecy. It’s here in the school. You are the Chosen One,” he said quickly, then took a deep breath.
“Good luck. I’ll come back soon,” he murmured before standing and running away. I caught a glimpse of a tall, dark haired man wearing a suit. I crumpled to the floor in agonizing pain, holding my arms around my stomach.
“Braedon!” I choked out, mustering up enough strength as possible. I yelped out in pain, hoping Braedon could hear me. Fortunately, he did.
“Destiny? Was that you?” I heard him call out. I groaned quietly in response, my breathing shallow.
“Destiny! He called out when I didn’t respond. My eyes started to close as pain engulfed me. Blood was pouring out of me in gallons, and the pain was too much to bear.
I heard his footsteps rushing towards me until he finally reached me. He knelt down beside me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“What happened?” he asked, and then gasped as he realized he was kneeling in a pool of blood.
“Holy-“ he yelled, feeling his pockets for his small healing box. His eyes were wide when he discovered that it wasn’t where he had left it.
“There,” I whispered, pointing to the box before coughing hysterically. Braedon quickly grabbed the box and held it to my wound. The blue light immediately beamed against my deep puncture, healing it within seconds. I inhaled gratefully, feeling no pain.
“What happened?” he asked, concern and relief covering him
“A man came out of nowhere and stabbed me, but immediately apologized. He then told me to ‘find the prophecy’, or something. Oh, and he said I have a tracker in my neck,” I added, telling him everything but leaving the part out about Nicole. I was slightly disappointed with myself; why couldn’t I just trust Braedon?
I had thought that Nicole was going to tell me that I couldn’t trust Braedon. My heart filled with relief, while my stomach filled with a knife, when it wasn’t him that she said I couldn’t trust.
“A tracker? Ouch… we’ll have to get that out,” he said, deep in thought. I slowly pulled myself up. Braedon grabbed the small pocket knife he had used to stab Nicole and wiped it clean on his shirt. He then looked up at me.
“This is gonna hurt, but not for long. Right when I pull it out, I’ll use the healing box. Will you be alright?” he asked, his voice filled with fear at the thought of cutting my neck open.
“I’ll be fine. It can’t be as bad as being stabbed in the stomach,” I said with a smile, trying to give him some confidence. In reality, I was terrified and disgusted. I turned around and put my head down, moving all the hair away from the back of my neck. I then felt a sudden sharp pain as the knife was inserted into the back of my neck.
I moaned quietly, but quickly stifled my pain, knowing it would distract him. He dug the knife in deeper, and the deeper he went, the harder it was to control myself. I clenched my fists and unintentionally yelped out when he stuck his fingers in to grab the tracker.
