Chapter Two
“Oh gosh, Des, I’m so sorry! I told you to believe me… I just ruin everything…” a voice rambled on and on, not stopping for breath. My eyes were still shut; almost stuck together. I could feel I was laying down somewhere, I just didn’t know where.
“C’mon, Des. Wake up, please!” the voice said. I couldn’t tell who ‘the voice’ was, until I realized that he had called me ‘Des’. Only one person called me Des.
“Bae?” I mumbled quickly, trying to open my eyes. Things were blurry, but hey, at least my eyes opened. I made out Bae’s concerned expression. He looked miserable.
“I’m so s-“ he started, but I cut him off.
“It’s fine, really. I should’ve believed you. It’s just… a lot to take in,” I breathed in heavily, pulling myself up, so I was sitting up on the bed I was in. Bae watched me from a distance, not saying anything.
“Where are we?” I asked, looking around. The room was clean yet unorganized, with scattered papers on a small desk and a folding chair that Bae sat on. I was sitting up in a large bed with a light pink blanket that had been shoved up against the wall hastily.
“Well, before, we were in the basement. Right now, we’re just in Nicole’s room. Nicole is that black haired girl you already met,” he explained, still keeping his distance. I nodded slowly.
“What’s the matter?” I asked Bae, watching his clutched fists and restricted position. We had gotten in fights before any of this, and I’m sure I’ve made him upset before, so why hadn’t he turned into a wolf then?
“I’m, well, I haven’t been a transformer, or wolf, forever. Only since my seventeenth birthday,” he said, seeming to answer my thoughts. His birthday was just last week, which means he hadn’t been a wolf for too long. I was secretly grateful.
“I still can’t control my anger,” he muttered when I didn’t respond. I nodded, still dazed by everything. So, this meant that werewolves were actually real? Were vampires, then?
“So, you might want to start explaining why you kidnapped me in the first place, before I pass out again,” I said, pulling my hair behind my ears. Bae blinked and started explaining.
“So, um, I hate to bring this up, but your dad was involved with all of this.” He waited for my reaction, but I kept a perfectly straight face. My dad was dead now, but I didn’t care. I absolutely loathed my father. Bae continued talking quietly,
“Des, your dad was a wolf. In fact, he was the leader.”
My eyes narrowed as questions filled my head. Why didn’t he tell me sooner? How did I not know about my own father being a wolf? How did he really die?
Bae was quiet as he let me process the information. My eyes widened more as the silence dragged on.
“Let me get this straight… you knew about my dad and you didn’t tell me?” I asked, anger rising in my voice.
“Des, I found out, like, two days ago. I wasn’t allowed to tell you yet!” he exclaimed in his defense. I rolled my eyes; my signature look.
“Let me finish. So your dad was the leader, and he didn’t abandon you. He couldn’t tell you why though, either. He died in a fight with another pack. He’s not the man you think he was, Des. He wasn’t a drunk.”
