Chapter Nine

Waking up at six in the morning and getting ready for school like a normal teenager was extremely hard to do. Braedon woke up at three am and couldn’t sleep ever since, so he woke me up at a decent hour. It was hard to get up, though, and have a normal routine. If it was hard to do just this, I knew that it would be hard to adjust to living normally.

I limped to the bathroom, my vision slightly blurred as I tried to find the light switch. The blaring, artificial light from the bathrooms ceiling shone down on me as I managed to get ready. There really wasn’t much I could do; Bae, who never had sisters or a mother he was close to, didn’t know what girls needed to get ready. I didn’t expect him to go buy me make up or a curling iron, but those were just some things I missed a lot.

The only thing involving my morning routine that he had bought was a brush and comb, so I’d have to live off of that until we got some more spending money. I brushed through my short hair while examining it in the mirror. Although I missed my long hair, short hair wouldn’t be too bad. It was just something I never considered before.

I gave my hair a sort of bed head, tousled look that seemed cute. It was easy to do and, honestly, I couldn’t do anything else. I washed my face and examined it afterwards. Like yesterday, my brown eyes were a little too bright and I had slight bags under my eyes. Overall, I still looked decent.

I walked out of the bathroom, back to my bedroom. I stripped out of my clothes and pulled on the only pair of clean shorts left, the really short ones. I then pulled on the dark blue denim shirt that was cute, but was almost long enough to cover my shorts. I shrugged it off, though. I really didn’t have options.

I pulled on the flip flops and headed into the kitchen, immediately assigning myself to food duty. I knew for a fact that Bae couldn’t cook and Braedon probably wasn’t too good at it, so I’d just cook all the meals. I was fine with it.

Bae walked into the kitchen as I was looking through the cupboards, trying to find something decent to make for breakfast. He was completely ready for school as well, wearing a white button up shirt and a pair of pants.

“Any requests for breakfast?” I asked as I opened the fridge, scouring everything with my eyes. I heard Braedon walk in as Bae light heartedly suggested eggs.

“Eggs it is.” I pulled out the eggs and found the only frying pan that Bae had bought.

“You guys ready for school?” Braedon spoke up as I cooked the breakfast. Bae shrugged as I cleared my throat.

“Not really… but I’ll survive,” I answered quietly. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of things, but it was hard not to. We had just been through hell, and this major switch was hard to handle. I was still extremely paranoid.

“Just try to act as normal as possible and not attract any attention. Remember, me and Destiny are twins, Braedons our older brother, and where did we move from?” Bae questioned the both of us.

“Frisco, Texas,” I answered. Bae nodded his head in acceptance.

“Here’s breakfast,” I spoke up after a moment of silence. I pulled out three paper plates and split the eggs evenly, then handed them out. We all ate our breakfast quickly and quietly, pondering to ourselves about going back to school.

After I finished my eggs, I glanced at the clock on the microwave. In bold, green letters in read: 7:10 am.

“Hey, when does school start, anyway?” I asked, setting my plate in a trash bag. Bae glanced up at the clock and decided he was done with his eggs.

“Twenty minutes, at 7:30 am. We better leave now, just to be safe,” he told us. We all nervously glanced at each other before walking out the front door, heading to school.
