CHAPTER 3:

-----Frank's POV-----

I followed the tracker on Gerard's phone until I arrived at Sunset Bay State Park, about fifteen miles from our house. The wind that was coming off the ocean was freezing like ice, piercing my thin cardigan. It was the cardigan Gerard had given me for my last birthday.

I found Gerard after an hour of walking around random trails and climbing various steep hills. He was dressed in a thin blue shirt and his short shorts. An odd fashion choice, I thought, considering it was probably 30 degrees.

His back was to me as I approached him. He was sitting on a low rock, with his pasty white legs streched out in front of him.

"Gerard...?"

His face flicked around to stare at me, a crazy look in his eyes.

"Why hello, Frankie-love. How are you, my sexy husband? I've missed you."

"What the fuck are you doing out here? You're going to get hypothermia!" I exclaimed.

Before replying, he took on a very vacant look in his eyes, then shook his head a few times. He lifted his eyes to my face and looked really confused.

"Frank? What are we doing here?"

I was immediately throw by the fact that he had no recollection of how he got here or why.

"I was wondering the same thing, Gerard. You've been very strange lately. You talk all kinds of crazy nonsense, walk around in the middle of the night..." I sat down next to him and looked out at the ocean. "Gerard, I'm worried that you're-"

He stood up suddenly, dragging me up with him. Then he slapped me across my face. The burning sensation in my cheek matched the feeling my ex-boyfriend Jake had inflicted on me years ago. Tears sprung to my eyes.

"Don't you fucking call me crazy! I'm not crazy, you bastard!" While he was yelling in my face, he was also shaking me violently by my shoulders.

He kept yelling at me, telling me over and over that he wasn't crazy. He slapped me once more before dropping me back on the ground.

Moments later, the glazed look came over his eyes again. He was standing over staring down at me, smiling. It was uber creepy.

"Frankie? What are you doing on the ground? The trees are talking... They're saying to jump. Jump, Frankie!!!" With that, he hopped off into the thick trees. I could hear sharp branches slapping against his bare legs.

Long after he was gone, I stayed sitting on the dusty ground, crying and consoling myself.

Even when I'd been kidnapped, I'd never been as scared as I was in that moment.
