Chapter 9
Haven's P.O.V.
I walk into the kitchen where my mom is on the phone, "Mom, who is it?" I ask. She drops the phone, I run to pick it up but the person has already hung up. "Mom, what's wrong?"
"It's Abby, she's in the hospital. That was Drake on the phone. He's there with her," she tells me quietly.
"What?! What happened?!"
"He doesn't know, he said something about, someone named Milo."
"I'm going to kill him, I snap.
"No, Haven, don't you see this is exactly what they want.
"I need to get the story from Drake. I need to know what happened," I tell her.
"I don't want you going alone, it's too dangerous."
"I'm not going alone, you're coming with me. If they can take Abby, they'll take you too."
"Haven, I'm sorry," she apologizes I don’t know why though.
"Why are you apologizing?"
"Because this is entirely my fault, if I hadn't loved your father then you wouldn't have to deal with any of this."
"Mom, none of this is your fault. If you hadn't loved him you wouldn't have gotten me. If this is anyone's fault it's Milo's," I explain.
"I guess you're right. Okay let's go we'll take the car."
As soon as we get to the hospital we rush into the ER doors and meet Drake. He takes one look at me and braces himself for a hit, but I don't hit him; instead, I wrap my arms around him and start to cry. He's stunned at this, and eventually puts his arms around my torso.
"Drake, what happened?" I ask quietly.
"Milo took her from your house, and brought her to Dad's. I beat him up for taking her and then when I went to go talk to Dad, he…he went into my room and barricaded the door. He attacked her because he knew he'd lose against me. I flew as fast as I could to get her here. They say that she'll be okay, that she just needs rest. She has broken cheekbones, a broken nose, a black eye, and multiple contusions," he tells us.
"Can we go see her?" I ask.
"She might be resting, but yeah we can go see her."
We enter her room and surely enough she is resting. She looks so broken, just lying in the hospital bed with tubes running this way and that.
"Abby," I whisper as I walk to her side and take her hand in mine. I turn to Drake, "Why didn't you keep her safe?"
"I tried, I just can't take care of people," he tells me and I slap him across the face.
"You better learn, for the sake of your daughter."
I run out of the room and out of the hospital, I'm going to teach Milo another lesson. The sun is starting to rise so I can't just take to the skies, I don't care. People aren't usually looking at the skies at four in the morning. It doesn't take me long to get to my father's house, it isn't until a net is thrown on top of me and I fall the rest of the way to the ground that I realize they've been waiting for me. The impact of the fall causes me to black out.
When I wake up I'm lying in my bed and Milo is standing by my door, his face still slightly swollen and his black eye healing. I try to get up to beat his face in, but my feet are bound to the bedpost, now I know why Milo's here; to make sure I don't leave.
"Hello, Haven," he greets, sporting a grin on his face.
"You're lucky I'm stuck on this bed, or else I would be pounding your face even more than Drake already has," I threaten.
