"are we wasting time,
talking on a broken line?"

third person point of view

"for the last time miss we're out of daisies. i'm sorry for the inconvenience." the elderly lady huffed and turned to leave the store muttering something along the line of — 'how can a flower shop not have daisies'. alaska sighed and thought about those daisy bouquet's she made around a week or so ago. her hands still a light pink.

a few hours later after her encounter with the persistent lady, alaska took off her apron and gathered her stuff from the staff room, hollering a 'goodbye' to her co-workers. she made her way home safe and sound, making sure she got on the right bus this time.

when she sat on her bed after locking the front door — because the house was empty, besides herself and the family dog — she pulled out her cellphone scrolling down the thousands of mentions she had on twitter. some fans sending her hate, other sending her love. she then went to the phone icon, dialling the number she knew off by heart.

she let it ring, anticipating that they would answer.

..one ring..

..two rings..

..three rings..

..four ri—

"hello?" an all too familiar australian asked. alaska froze when she heard his voice, her hand going stiff, letting her cellphone drop to the ground with a thud. she didn't know if he'd actually pick up or not. but he did.

"hello?" he asked again when she didn't respond. she snapped out of her daze and bent down to pick up her phone, hastily bringing the device to her ear.

"h-hi, or-or he-ey."she stumbled over her words, probably sounding like an idiot.

"oh my goodne- thank god alaska. i've missed you so much." ashton breathed from the other end of the line. alaska paused for a moment, thinking — 'if he missed me as much as he claims he has, then why didn't he contact me for six weeks?'.

"i missed you too ashton." she said.

"ash?" alaska asked while lying on her back.

"mmh?" he questioned

"why haven't you called or texted me?" it hit a nerve for her to ask that.

she could hear him gulp, "the lad's and i were busy most of the time, and when we weren't i just couldn't bring myself to talk to you because i felt like you would've hated me because i didn't say goodbye when i left." ashton confessed to her. to say the least, alaska was shocked. she could never hate him and he knew that.

"i could never hate you ash." she sighed, him sighing along with her.

"i know. it's just that, well— people can change their minds with a blink of an eye." it was true. she could've changed her mind, declaring that she hated him. but he wasn't like that. alaska would only make a change that big if ashton had done something major that hurt her feelings in ways she didn't want to think about.

suddenly, ashton laughed causing alaska to put her thoughts to the side, "li- micha-l us-ly falls dur-g ne-er, and ca- fal-s du-in- re-ec-s."

"ash i can't hear you properly." alaska said.

"w-at? i ca-t he-ar -uo."

alaska sighed, something she was probably doing way too often for her own good, "are we just wasting time, talking on a broken line? because i can't hear your clearly." she stated.

"probably. i'm som-wh-re wi-h ba- re-eption." ashton said. although, the only thing that alaska heard was him agreeing to them wasting time talking on a broken line. and with that, alaska pulled the cellphone away from her ear, hitting the 'end' button, obviously ending the call.

her lights were already out so all she had to do was get under the covers, in which she did, trying to forget ashton's words.
