Burn

-Kevin's POV-

It was a terrible chore to push yourself out of the bed early in the morning and try to be an effective human being. Sinong tao ang natutulog ng 1 AM at gumigising ng 6 AM nang hindi labag sa kalooban niya?

I opened my eyes stubbornly and tried to focus my eyes. It's still dark though, hindi pa nakaayos ang kurtina ko. Five more minutes. I told myself. Ayoko pang bumangon.

When I tossed around to my side, the horrifying effect of what I saw was more than what a gallon of coffee could give.

He was lying there, half naked and softly snoring. I mentally panicked.

"Hoy!" I punched his left shoulder.

"What?!" He woke up mildly startled.

"Anong ginagawa mo dito?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"I'm sleeping. Get out." He said. Tangina nagulat ako, get out?!

"I offered you a nice bedroom last night, why did you come to mine?"

"I have no idea. I have no.. I have no interest in your bedroom. I have interest in you." He points at my bare chest.

He got out of the room first. And bago niya sinara yung pinto, he looked at me sadly(?)

That was my first time sleeping with a man. A half naked man!

I showered and shaved my face and all the things you could think of what men do while preparing for work in the morning. I tried to clear up my mind and sharpen my focus, only to be distracted by the smell of brownies.

Nakakapang-lambot ang ganung amoy.

To see Toby in the kitchen with a apatula in hand is somewhat weird. I did not occur to me that he can cook!

"Take this with you." He handed me a brown bag. "Lester and Nicole are coming over after lunch. Will you be home around 1:30?" He asked.

"I will be home at 1, I have to go. Thanks for these." I awkwardly tapped his shoulders and got my keys above the refrigerator.

"Uh Toby?" I spoke awkwardly.

"Yes Kevin?"

"I'm sorry for being rude."

I'm still wondering why I have underestimated him. Pero alam kong may fair share kami ng pagkakamali kasi kung hindi niya ako hinalikan eh di sana I don't have my guards up.

Eh binigyan niya ako ng permission para manghusga eh. Hay.

That 7 whole hours of tweaking, editing, cleaning-up and printing dummy layouts, my mind was flying in and out of its respective place. I wasn't thinking about Toby, though.

Si Lester ang iniisip ko. Si Lester nanaman. Putangina si Lester pa rin.

Even if I exert my best effort to forget about my feelings about him, I fail.

It is a roller coaster ride lacking momentum and force of gravity.

Bumabalik ako sa pinanggalingan ko.

Bumabalik ako sa palitan nila ng I do.

Bumabalik ako sa mga oras na high school pa lang kami.

I hope I could just stop being pathetic and get on with it and get on with my life and be happy.

"Heyyyy!" Nicole kissed my cheek.

"Uy dude." Toby acknowledged me and I responded with a nod.

"Hello bestfriend." His sweet voice filled my senses.

"Hi Guys." I mumbled awkwardly while I laid my camera bag down on the glass table. All six eyes on me.

"WHAT?!" I yelled.

"Sit down. We have to talk." Nicole said gently.

"Hindi magandang simula yan ng conversation. Nakaka-kaba naman ata." Sabi ko.

"Whatever." sabi ni Nicole. Pakyu ka sis.

I sat down on the chair between Lester and Toby. "Anong paguusapan? Make it fast di pako kumain!"

"Toby decided to stay here in Pinas for good kaya we were hoping na sana habang naghahanap siya for a stable job, you'd permit him to stay here with you." Nicole paused.

"And when he lands one, aalis na siya dito at titira sa kung saang place man niya gugustuhin." Lester was the one who continued the sentence.

My eyes focused at Toby. "What's the estimated time frame for that process?"

"Forever." He laughed.

"Okay three months. Kain na ako please? Wala na pong laman ang sikmura ko."

When I stood up from the couch, Toby did the same. He went past me and prepared a plate, spoon and fork.

"Toby no need for that. I can help myself."

"No Kevin, this is the least I can do for letting me live in your house."

"Toby, that's not really necessary."

"No Kevin, I insist."

He turned to face me and smiled. A genuine smile that made the corner of his eyes crease.

"Now eat." Pumunta siya sa may cupboard at kinuhanan pa ako ng baso. Ibang level. HRM siguro natapos niya.

"Toby, what's your profession?" I asked.

"I am a nurse. Why do you ask?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Wala curious lang. Salamat ulit. Kain nako."

"Eatwell." He said while he pouring water on my glass.

I turned to invite the couple.

"KAAAAAAIN TA..." HUH?! "yooo"

Lester is staring angrily at Toby's back.
