Chapter Song: Young God by Halsey

"Okay class, we have an exciting announcement," Mrs. Grumble-I mean Grundle says with no emotion whatsoever. "Yes, it's very exciting," Mrs. Jones, her counter-part, says a smile plastered across her face. "Who here likes to dance?" Mrs. Grundle says her eyes sweeping across the room. Most of the kids put their hands up, myself not included.

"Who likes music?" She reads off her sheet. Every hand in the room goes up. "What about spending time with friends?" Everyone's hands go up accept mine. I think it over for a moment. Does Luke count as a friend? Yeah, well at least he does now. I put my hand up and I can feel the stares burning holes in my skin.

"Wow, I didn't know it had friends," a girl whispers so only a few people can hear. "Can skeletons have friends?" Another girl adds and they all chuckle. Everyone puts their hands down. "Well good because our new winter Prom, that will replace our regular prom is just around the corner and the school has put a new policy in place," Mrs. Grundle explains.

"Yes! Okay so most of you know that you have to have 40 hours of community service to graduate and most of you have nearly all of them completed. But we've changed our policy, you now need 50," once the words leave Mrs. Jones moth everyone groans. Well except for me of course, it's a long list of reasons and stories but I only needed to do 30 hours instead of 40, so I assume this won't effect me either.

"Oh don't worry, we know that this will be difficult so we've decided that the seniors will be able to attend prom and participate in the activities and use that for hours, and there are some things that you can do around school that can help you get all the hours in," she says her smile still present.

Mrs. Jones comes over to me and quietly explains that the school is requiring me to get 5 extra hours instead of 10. My stomach drops. Great, now I have to go to prom; how amazing.

Everyone breaks out into whispers about prom and who they're going with and what they're wearing. I just sit quietly and wait for someone to say or do something. Nothing is really happening so I check my phone under my desk. Luke and I have been texting quite a bit so I decide to shoot him a quick text letting him know what's going on.

To Luke: so prom's a requirement now. Shoot me please

From Luke: oh no, poor kitten. Let's go get you some ice cream

To Luke: ha ha

From Luke: anything you want

From Luke: well, anything you want except vanilla

"Okay everyone, let's let Ms. Grundle get back into what she was teaching," Mrs. Jones says smiling and waving before leaving the room. Ms. Grundle starts her painful droning and the class tunes out. We all play with papers or pencils and our fingers and such waiting for something, anything to happen.

And unlike usual something does happen. The door swings open and reveals a blonde boy with a little scruff in tight black jeans, an old band tee, and a leather jacket, his lip ring between his teeth. "Can I help you?" Ms. Grundle's voice rings through the classroom of girls with goo-goo eyes and boys with envious faces.

"Yeah, I'm here for Maisie-Marie, the office sent me down," he explains smirking at the shocked looks when the extremely hot boy was here for me. "Okay. Maisie you may-"

"Actually it's Maisie-Marie, you know. Like the Disney cat Marie? Yeah, that's what it's from, and it's a very important part of the name," Luke interrupts. She glares at him. "You can go," she says to me. I stand and grab my bag and walk towards the door. Once I'm in proximity of Luke he hovers his hand over my lower back to guide me out on the class and through the halls.
