Friend.

What are the requirements for a friend? I guess it depends on the person. For some the friend needs to be within walking distance. But for you... well it does't really matter. They could live half way across the country for all you care, as long as they accept you and take you for who you are. 

This particular night you needed a friend. You scroll through your messages to find someone to talk to. You come across a name of a person you had talked to maybe once or twice. But most of the time it was for help with something or other.  You had met him online and had no clue where he lived or anything but whatever.

You:    Um, hi...

Joe:  Oh, hey!

 You:  Yeah I don't really know you at all but um I just needed someone to talk to.

Joe:  Well, hello there then. What's up?

You: Idk just haven't been feel awesome lately.

Joe: Aw! Why? Your pretty awesome!

You: You don't even know me!

Joe: Yeah but I've seen the writing and videos you put online and those are awesome!

You: R-really?

Joe: Yeah!

You and him began to talk more and more. Over the next couple months you found yourself talking to him pretty much everyday. He told you about his band and his friends and what he did in his free time. You never really opened up much because you didn't want to bother him. But he didn't really seem to mind. 

Joe: I wish i could meet you.

You: Yeah that'd be cool...

Joe: Where do you live?"

You: I live in Houston, you know in Texas.

Joe: Damn, I live in Chicago...

You: Oh...

Joe: I'm glad we've become friends.

His text came randomly and made you stop. You stare... friends?

You: Friends?

Joe: Yeah I mean, we are friends right? Oh no! Did I make it weird?

You stop and think. Why hadn't you thought of this before. Of course you were friends! He was always there for you and didn't care how far you were from him. 

You: No! I just didn't realize you thought of me as a friend!

Joe: Of Course!

Friend.

What does it mean to you?
