“Are we there yet?”

“Hello, what’s taking so long?”

“We’re lost aren’t we, I knew it”

“Shut the hell up I would’ve expected this much winning coming from her” shouted Nicolas.

“Hey what’s that supposed to me” I said annoyed.

“And we are nearly there so be quiet or get out” he continued speaking to Sammy via the rear view mirror.

“Piss off dad” Sammy replied sarcastically.

The car journey didn’t continuing in silence as after five minutes Sammy started winding up Nicolas again and they went back to insulting each other, it was funny at the start but now it’s just getting boring and childish.

I reached for the radio and just when I was about to press the play button my hand was instantly slapped away, “Ouch, why’d you do that for”

“Don’t touch” looking straight ahead he turned on the radio and went to play some classical music.

“Seriously? Classical music” I went to change the station but like before my hand was slapped away just as I reached the button.

“It helps me relax”

“Urgh when are we going to stop this is getting ridiculous” I was seriously getting more fustrated by the second.

“Ten more minutes”

“You said that two hours ago”

“Yeah well this time I mean it now shut up you’re missing the best part”

“Yeah you better” I mumbled.

I ignored the fact that he just shushed me and I turned my head to the side because I did kind of enjoy the ‘best part’ of the music and I wasn’t about to admit that to him.

The sun had set a long time ago and the sky was filled with stars but the beautiful thing about this scene was not the millions of stars shinning all at once in the dark black sky but the tiny lamps that were now forming a pathway inside a tunnel of tall trees and wild flowers, their smell so strong it over took the stench of the inside of the sweaty car.

“We are here” Nicolas spoke silently, and for the first time since we all got into the car we were all quiet and looking out the window mesmerised by the sights and smells.

The tunnel seemed to last forever but I did not mind, it wasn’t a straight tunnel either there was lots of twists and turns but all had the tiny lamps forming and brightening the way.

“It’s so beautiful” I whispered mostly to myself.

“It is isn’t it” said Nicolas.

“Yes we all know it’s lovely and beautiful but when is this winding tunnel of trees going to end, unlike you I haven’t eaten the whole day” Sammy said grumpily and for added effect his stomach started growling.

I shook my head; he always has to be the one to ruin the moment.

“Hey you’re damaging the leather let go, have you gone mad”

I turned to face Nicolas, “what the hell are you talking about?”

He pointed his head at the direction of my hands and when I looked down I saw both of my hands latched onto the sides of the seat for dear life, forcefully I peeled off each finger one by one trying to make it look as though I wasn’t in pain.
